    Default Bonus...or not ?

No one could ever answer this on the other forum i used to frequent, however in TWC with all its modders and technical expertise, maybe it can be now.

The question is as to if you get a bonus or not for woods.

For example, im fairly certain that Eygpt get a bonus for just playing on a desert map....as if they need it.

However, something that is slightly less clear is if the 'in woods' bonus applies on a wooded map in its entirety (sorry, cant spell), or only while the units are fighting in the woods.
Also, can anyone tell me exactly how the hill '+' or '-' actually works. Is there a set bonus for fighting up a hill, or does it vary dependant on slope etc ? Some of this is common sense, but games dont always work like that and ive never been able to work out about the woods bonus.

You get the wood's bonus when you see the little tree symbol on the unit card. I don't beleive there is any exact info on the slope bonus but it seems you do get a bigger bonus the steeper the gradient-this is more obvious in single player when you get one of those weird battlemaps where your men are basically fighting on a cliff face, the lower unit gets massacred.

When you see litle tree symbol, that means that youre units are hidden, not that they have bonus..

If unit have bonus in woods or snow in their descr. that means that they will have bonus fighting in wood and snow, so if whole map is flaty grassland, and you have some woods in the edge of that map, units will have bonus just in that edge..
Also units that gets penalty fighting in woods (cavalry, long spears..) will get penalty just in that woods part...

IF they can hide in the area i believe you will get the wood bonus. but it does work as when i was playing online agaisnt britian and as the swordsmen get combat bonus i noticed by legionaries suffered more casualties then the ones which were outside the woods.

Sorry bit of a brainfart there, for some reason i thought that symbol was only used in woods whn that is of course not true, in any case it should be pretty clear when you are fighting in woods.

Almost all units can hide in the area, but not all of them will get bonus, some may get penalty as well , but yes, if says in woods, that will mean in woods only.

@Whiskeyjack: Yeah, some units gets that in long grass, and some get it anywhere

For the hill bonuses the advantage you get it this: the enemy gets tired climbing up the hill so they are tired very tired or exhausted when they get to your units. Your archers, slingers, or peltasts get range bonuses when they're on a hill.

I think wood bonuses are when your army fights inside forest, like Germanys forsets..

ok, thanks. Thats cleared that up then, you only actually get a bonus when you are in the woods, not for the whole map , that is wooded. Common sense prevails. Very odd

In the clan-members only section of my clan forums, I made a chart illustrating the exact bonuses and penalties each commonly used RTW unit gets for each type of terrain (Sand, Scrub, Forest, and Snow). I've also done a similar thing regarding other bonuses and penalties regarding cavalry, elephants, chariots, camels, etc. (ie: camels get a bonus vs other cavalry, cavalry get penalties against elephants, etc.) Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to make these charts public. Sorry.

Just look in the export_descr_units file, located in the Data folder with all the other files. Everything you want is there.

Well the plan is to infiltrate the Destoryers forum and steal their secrets or you can just dl a program called Caligula and then look at the units stats either way you get the results

Why can't they be public? It doesn't sound illegal.

It's not an illegal activity - it's a clan secret (although TWF mentioned how anyone could find out the same info).

All infantry units get a bonus in woods, and all cavalry get a negative. Some infantry get an even bigger than normal bonus in the woods (for example many barbarian units). You can tell if they get a larger than normal bonus if the unit info 'stats at a glance' thing says combat bonus in woods.
