Build better Churches this will start your Priests of with better piety.
Put your priests into provinces with low Roman/Orthodox Christianity to convert "heathens". This will also improve their piety.
I always send a bunch of Priests to the Holy Land in the first turns and with any luck I get a couple of Bishops down the line.

Put 5 on a ship to the Muslim provinces, their piety will rocket and you'll get plenty Cardinals in the process to 'taint' the Papacy.Originally Posted by chompy_the_goat
