    Default control AI faction

    hi,

    unfortunately I'm getting constant ctd in my first campaign with dlv 4 + bugfixer01. The last one happens on the english turn. I toggled fog of war off via console to see where it happens. It crashes when an army is moved to a location - there is no other thing happening. The army moves and when it arrives at that location, game ctds. I wanted to try to control the faction to see if I get past this move but the console command does not work. I tried 'control england', 'control faction england' and so on. But none of them worked. Anyone knows what I'm doing wrong?

    Hi,

    I've had three ctd's on the Scottish turn, but was never able to reproduce, since it never happened twice for the same ctd.
    Can you please be more specific? (year in game, faction you play, difficulty, what's the exact location the army goes to? Is it a town...)

    @Repman, haven't reported the ctd's officially, because I have nothing for you to work with. Each time, when the turn got through eventually, there was a Mongol-related event ("a new threath" movie, "Mongols arrive"message,...). Nothing shows in the log after the ctd and reloading the game and ending turn avoids the ctd for that turn somehow...

    i would also like to know if there is a command that lets you change the faction you play in a campaign? I think i recall something like this being possible in Rome TW but i might be wrong.

    hi Belgae,

    unfortunately I'n not able to reproduce it, it happens constantly on the english turn but not at the same move. I tried to reproduce the ctd three times with fow off. The first time it crashed when the AI moved an army from London towards Caernevaron (rebel controlled), when it stops midway the game crashes, no other character around at that location. The second time it crashed at the very first move: a diplomat was moved to medina (desert tribes controlled), as soon as he arrives there, ctd. The third time again it crashed as the first time, army moved from London and when arriving at the planned location it ctds. The er is absolutely no hint whatever might cause the ctd.
    I'm playing the french, year 1203, on m/m. I had a crash a few turns before on the rebel turn. I loaded the game more times, saved it again and retried, finally succeeding in getting the turn done. This time however I haven't been so lucky.

    I suppose there is some hidden misconfiguration causing the crash but its hard to find out.

    In rtw you can control ai faction using the console command 'control <faction_type>'. This feature is documented for mtw2 too but does not seem to work, at least it has no effect when I enter it. It rtw its a great help for debugging.

    I've never had a CTD while actually playing...only one CTD when I was clicking on the factions at faction select. Did you do a clean install of DLV 4.0 (not overwrite 3.2 or anything with 4.0)?

    @Aszrayel

    well, I even reinstalled mtw2, patch 1.2, then on top of vanilla dlv4 + bugfixer01 and finally oldguardians adapted darthmod. I've played dlv 3.2 in this combiantion too and never had any problem

    When you uninstalled M2TW did you delete the Sega/Medieval II Total War directory that gets left behind? Also the DLV_ext folder gets left behind using the DLV uninstaller so that folder would be left in there as well.

    your not alone, im in the same situation. playing as the english and the game crashes during the scotish turn. im not 100% sure but i think in my game it happens at the same point every time (when a scotish army leaves one city and moves to another, the game crashes when they reach their destination). Also like you my game was crashing for a few turns befor but i was able to get through. now ive hit the wall, i really dont want to start over again. Hopefully if someone can help you the same solution will work for me. I can give more specific info on cities and year if anyone cares.

    the silver lining in all this i guess is that now i have a serious grudge against scotland and have a good excuse to sack and pillage all their cities when or if i get my game running again.

    ok so i just went back to check the crash point again the unit doesnt leave a city but starts outside of Stirling moves down as if to enter Dumfries but the game crashes as soon is the unit gets to the square outside the city. its the winter of 1224.
