Now then.............

Although not directly related to mtw2 i have a question for the more technically astute members of the forum here.

Currently i am running 2x512mb in dual channel on my MSI K8N Neo4 9F (pcb 1.0) motherboard.
This runs at the current setting for my athlon64 4000+ (pc 3200 400mhz).

I am about to buy 2x1gb of the same ram installed installed in my system but there is a hitch,.

According to my motherboard manual , if i use all 4 slots in my motherboard the max speed i can generate is 333mhz for the memory.

So the main question i have is.

1) Would i benefit having 3gb of ram enough for the drop in memory speed to be warranted.
2) Would removing the old ram sticks and replacing them with the 2x1gb modules show more of an improvement than the upgrade stated in (1) considering i could then run the memory at 1:1 with my FSB.

All answers appreciated.

Since you'll have all that ram available to you soon, I would try different setups and do some benchmarks. My guess, though this is nothing certain, is that you'd probably be better off with 2x1024. But I can't be sure. Good luck!

hmm yeah that is my first thought too. It would be great to be able to have the 3gb though just to be a posing ponce though .

One thought though is to lower the multiplier on my cpu to 11x from 12x and then up the fsb to 220 , this should then give me 186 (372) on the the ram side of things . Other option at 10x 240 for a 196 (392 mhz). Do you think that this will stress the system>?
