Right my mate re-installed M2TW and the 2 patches...however his launcher is weird and different and he cant start the game. Help appreciated.

Well, he should have patched straight to 1.2, so try that and see if the problem persists.

If the problem persists, just change the target of the shortcut from '...launcher.exe' to '...medieval2.exe' to bypass the launcher entirely.
