    Default Killing prisoners

if you are fighting a battle and are beginning to lose, is there a way to kill the prisoners you have taken before the battle ends? I see them adding up in the bottom of the screen in that little prison picture but I can't seem to kill them before the battle ends.

    Thanks

You can't. Bad thing is when the battle is lost, all the prisoners you captured are free.

Another incentive to win the battles Just as a related tag-on, does anyone else find that Chivary is better for growth in a long-run than dread and therefore try to avoid killing prisoners?

use dread leaders for battles only, and chivalrous to settlements. sometimes is better to kill everyone to avoid facing the again later, but you can ransom or free then for chivalry stats and sometimes attack them again
remember you can add new generals by doing small field battles with armies without a general bodyguard, you dont have to wait for coming of age and stuff. if you win, theres a chance someone will be promoted.

If I have a general killing prisoners often, will it make him a bad settlement governor then? Never realised that, if its the case.

he will probably be, unless hes the faction leader. the best and fastest way to know is to get him in and out of the settlement, and see the difference. if you have a family member that you know is a good governor and hes not really needed elsewhere, you can always bring him along in the frontline to take care of new settlements till you get another one. for that, you can just go out for small skirmishes, but without a family member. if you get a good victory, the temporary general will be adopted as a family member (they are always new and with basic traits), which can be used as a governor. this doesnt work if you win a siege, just field battles. this is specially useful in the beginning of a game, when you can have a general in every city and evolve faster. so, you dont really need to wait for coming of age, marriages and stuff.
good generals with great battle traits are a waste as governors.

Well, while both dread and chivalry helps stabilise a settlement against revolt, high chivalry also increases the growth of the settlements (around 0.5% per unit of chivalry). This makes your settlements grow MUCH faster - benefits of which are teching faster and increases your income faster.

So as a general rule, my Faction leader is a high dread character (unavoidable as I use assasins) and the rest of my generals are high in chivalry.
