Help Needed

I have a problem with my RTR, when I install the RTW and try to play it, right after I see the ACTIVISION animation it crashes back to the desktop and nothing else happens... so if that happens with just RTW it's only logical that RTR will not run.

How can I fix it? someone have any idea?.

P.S. Of course I have already installed the Patches (1.2; 1.3 & 1.5)

Any help will be appreciated

Have you added the '-show_err' switch to the target of your shortcut - if there is an error that can be trapped by the program an error message will be shown.

The following is the version that I use;

"C:\Program Files\Activision\RTR 6 Gold\RomeTW.exe" -show_err

You can also try the -nm switch. This is the 'no movie' switch. After the Activision copywright screen it attempts to play a movie (or two).

Did the game ever work?

If you install a series of patches it's best to launch the game after each patch just to try and isolate any problem (yes, I've installed various patches in the past for other games and have had to uninstall and re-install step by step).

I have the exact same problem, as soon as I start the game I see the very first window, with all the copyrights and a map of italy with RTR in the background and then the game ctds. I installed the patch 1.2 before installing RTR. I have no idea on how to add the '-show_err' switch to the target of my shortcut. Plz plz help as I would love to give this mod a try.

Plz help anyone, any ideas are welcome

Open your desktop shortcut for the game, and type in as follows:
Mind to add a space between the line (of course here not from RTR) and the -show_err

yes this is the same prob i have and when then it says script error in data/desc_events_image faction distroyed by people and thers something wrong with that so how do i fix it

I have a original copy of RTW, but I still have the same problem, I install everything in order and when I try to play, it crashes back to desktop.

Have a look at this thread http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=117677 for the usualy start sequence. When is the game crashing?

Have you tried the -nm switch that I suggested previously?

Uninstall everything to do with RTW. Install a fresh copy. patch up all the way to 1.5 downloading the various patches, then download rome total realism platinum mod witch version 1.9. direct to rome total war folder.

i had this problem. but i found out it was because i had the BI RTW pack. which is automatically 1.5, so when I installed the others over it it messed up things majorly. i just had made a copy of the data folder beforehand and pasted it there so it went back to normal vanilla, and it did it right the second time.
