Anyone wanna do a Play By Email campaign?

Now, to play, you need an unmodded version of Rome: Total War 1.5. I want to play with 2-4 other players. Please, if you want to play, make sure you'll follow through the whole campaign. Also realize that this is going to last a long time since we have to email the save files to each other. If you're alright with that, here are some rules:

1. You must auto-resolve battles against another player, but you can fight out the battles against the computer.
2. No redoing your turn because you messed up a battle or something like that.
3. No playing as the Roman Factions (unfair advantage due to allies).

That's all I can think of now. If you want to play in this campaign, post the faction that you wish to play as and anything else you want to say. Remember, please stick with this if you sign up. I call Carthage!

Alright, awesome. Remember, everyone, to make sure that the ONLY file you have modded is descr_strat to unlock factions. Now I better check how to zip a file for when we email the campaign... Anyone know how to zip files?

Oh, I almost forgot... This will be Very Hard Campaign and Medium Battles. What unit size do you want to use? I prefer Huge.

Ah, I was going to join but my computer can only handle normal sized battles. To zip a file first you need a program that can compress files (like Winzip or WinRAR), then just right click on the files you want to compress and click "add to archive..."

add to archive, gotcha. Well, if it's not a problem with the other players, we can still play normal scale. I just prefer Huge because it offsets squalor the most.

I just had to do some fiddling around with it myself, the instructions in the first post of the link miss out some important information. Here's what you do, let me know if it works:

• Download the script generator here
• Run it
• Enter the number of players you want
• Now enter the names of the factions you want to play. These must be the same as they are named in the descr_strat file in ....\Activision\Rome - Total War\Data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign
• They must also be in the same order they appear in the text file. e.g if you wanted to play the Julii, the Seleucids and Macedon you would type "romans_Julii macedon seleucid" as this is the order they appear in descr_strat.
• The program will now generate a script and put it in C:. Move it to ....\Activision\Rome - Total War\Data\scripts\show_me
• Now go back to the data folder and open up export_descr_advice, you'll need to edit some code in here.

That's the part I found wasn't explained clearly in the instructions, the rest is fine. Start a game as one of the factions, press F1 to bring up the shortcuts scroll, press the "?" button then click "show me how" on the advisor in the top left. It'll grey out, and you can then take your turn. When you end your turn, the game will continue until it gets to one of the other factions, then the game will save and freeze. Then all you need to do is send the save file to the next person, or press ctrl+l to load it and play as the next faction .

I'd post it in the thread over at .org too as it'll help out alot of people, but I'm not registered there.

For some reason those two sections of code were commented out in my file, and it seems like it's commented out on alot of others. If nothing happens when you click the "?" button, it's because you need to remove the ';'s from those two sections.

Indeed. We still need more players. I'm thinking we should probably have 3-5 players. Too little would be boring but too much would take too long.

So, do I understand it right, you play one turn, then send it to somebody else so he can play his turn too... that's gonna take years. Why don't you make a succesion campaign?

Edit: And how does it work if your faction gets attacked during the AI turn when somebody else plays?
