Default Asus Striker nVidia nForce 680i SLI or EVGA nForce 680i SLI Mainboard Premium [122-CK-NF68-A1]

I've heard very radical 'stories' about these mobos, both possitive and negative. Right now I'm stuck cause I have to choose one of these for my new ring. And one more thing which RAM do you preffer much: Corsair or OCZ???, I'm about to buy Corsair Twin2X DDR2 2x 1GB 800MHz CL4-4-4-12 low latency

Frankly I think both of those boards are overtop and over priced. If your getting a Core 2 Duo latency isn't really an issue and if your not planning on overclocking get the cheapest ram you can get, those stupid pointless heat spreaders companies put on their ram stick are a waste of money as well and serve little more then a marketing tool for people to cough up more money.

If your hell bent on getting either one of those motherboards I would recommend the EVGA, I’ve only heard good things about since it came out earlier this year. I think King Edward I has had one for testing but he working at the moment so he isn’t around but he did think it was a SLI good board.

indeed I have OCing in my mind and from what I've heard both are quite accurate fo it. There's a little problem with CPU cause I don't want to bleed myself out of money and I'm going to get Intel Core2 Duo E6420 2.13 GHz (S775) BOX due to it good OC potential. Some folks advised to me those Quad Cores but I don't feel myself convinced.

Teh E6420 is a good little chip and you can overclock beyound the frequancy of extereme edition chips. If your overclocking then I suggest you get some decent ram, I never used OCZ before myself (I prefer Crucial myself as you get a life times warrenty) but I know a lot of overclockers that use it.

As for Quad core you can always upgrade latter if you want.

I am running the EVGA 680i A1 board right now, cross-shipped my old AR version to get the A1 as it had some OC'ing issues with quads. All in all it's a decent board. There seems to be a FSB limit around 470ish on most boards. If your not going SLI don't get it. The stock sinks tend to be terribly gunked up with thermal paste resulting in bad temps so that might be something to consider (easily fixed). EVGA has lifetime warranty and they warranty oc'ing. There support is great and definitely my top choice for a company to go with. I am a bit partial in that I have never touched a striker board though.

Your likely better off going for DDR2 800 RAM as it leaves room for oc'ing. The E6750 (simple CPU chart) is the seet spot for chips right now but any of the core 2's are great. If you care to post your budget we might be able to help you out.

    MB:
    EVGA 680i ~ $200

    CPU:
    E6750 ~ $210

    GPU: 8800GTX ~ $510

    RAM: Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066 (2x1GB) ~ $164

    HD: Raptor ~ $170 or 750GB WD ~ $200

    PS: OCZ 700W GameXStreme ~ $105

Case, OS, DVD Drive, More RAM, SLI GPU's: Personal Choice Mostly

    Total ~ $1400

That's just a quick basis to go from. You have many options with that budget. I would say go with the 750GB WD because it has really great speed (comparable to the Raptor) and huge capacity compared to the Raptor which is fast but not nearly the size.

The striker extreme boards get a negative rep because of price and because a relatively few people have had issues. However I really chalk that up to money to burn and a lack of knowledge. People wanting the best but not understanding what they are getting themselves into.

You have a real nice budget so get some real nice ram.

Ive seen this team group ram pushed to ridiculous limits. real nice ram

OCZ has a lifetime warranty, most ram manufacturers do now, I believe Corsair was the first. OCZ is truly no questions asked though, they wont even throw it on the bench.

Crucial is some real nice ram and because it has come down in price it has become the choice of many. You can push Crucial ram real far.
