Default Extra Movement Mod for DLV - Updated

    More Movement per Turn

    Whats changed:
-Typical armies led by a General can move through Italy in about 2 turns. Ships on crusade can go from Florence to Alexandria in about 2 turns.
-All characters movements increased to around double of original DLV.

What considerations I took into account:
*In general, medieval armies could easily do 10 miles per day. Thats 1800 miles in 6 months. Italy is roughly 500 miles from top to bottom. London to Florence is roughly 1000 miles.
*Update: Being that this is a turn-based game, I believe people have expressed legitimate concerns of AI suddenly crashing down your walls, so I have reduced movement of armies by about 25% of my original.

    --------------------------------------------
*Made for DLV 5.01 (this is most likely compatible with most if not all DLV updates cuz this file is not modified by DLV) -Thank to Brips for update.
*Will see extended movements after you hit end turn
    *Save game compatible

Install: (always backup) Replace "descr_character.txt" with original, found here: Medieval II Total War\DLV_ext\data

It sounds like a great premise and I feel bad even saying this without trying it yet, but ... I'm just wondering if movement it too great that you run into a problem where armies seem to teleport ... one minute they're nowhere to be found and the next thing they're smashin' down your walls without any warning. My gut fear is that it would make DLV more realistic but less playable.

I'm looking forward to hearing feedback as well and curious to see how these things have been compensated for as I certainly agree with your logic.

Your point is valid. This has a dramatic effect on gameplay. From my perspective the changes are very positive.

Moving across enemy ground. You would need to give AI a chance to respond to infraction. Also the allies of the violated country would need to be given chance to respond. Lots of how countries would respond. Trade, Navy. and Generating Armies to respond. Lots of RESPOND. Maybe in your country, not sure about others.

    Re: asmabomb

Your point is valid and has been understood. To add to it, the AI doesn't act like a human, it is figidy. I have not noticed the inability to respond to a problem. The major difference from my experience is on the human player's side. Getting new units to armies, getting old units to cities and castles for training, moving generals about, moving merchants and diplomats to new areas, things like that...

    Scivian,

I have to apologize as I'm trying to get a campaign in 4.0 DLV going as well as looking at modding for the first time tweaking the whole siege thing so have not had the time as intended to look at this movement change.

In what way have you seen an improvement to the game?

Im not sure exactly what your saying, but to be clear, armies move further which makes everyone more vulnerable.

well economy is very hard in dlv so this makes it easier to move armies through enemy territory and into towns

also the mobility allows you to have smaller armies - especially while your territorry is small...which i like coz a small territory cannot maintain a large army or 2 armies to defend all its borders anyway

sometimes i think that the reality fetish that some have in tw games is a little exxagerated. reality changes anyways as soon as you start playing and some reality flaws can easily be elliminated by some fantasy. but traveling from marienburg to lübeck with only cavalary taking one year seems exxagerated.
well after all what counts most is how the gameplay changes..i ll check that out

so i assume it might make dlv sligtly easier coz u are able to save some bucks
i am sure there a 2 factions one that dislikes this change and one that appreciates it - i imagin i could like it - i will try it right now

    @Scivian,

I am enjoying your character movement mod greatly and suggest that it should be stickied. I now accomplish tasks in a realistic amount of time. Being a medieval history masters student, I am always looking for historical accuracy, and you have provided it. Thank you!

I'll be downloading this mod, as it always seemed to me that my armies were too slow.

Been trying your mod. I like it. It adds more depth to game. Also the merchants are worth having because they can get to resorces quicker after being taken out all the time. Also you can respond quicker to enemies. Been playing English VH/VH year 1220, having lots of fun. Good addition, I hope they add this to next update.

I think the major impact should be on the supply system. You will rarely be out of supply.
