    Default IDEA

A few weeks ago I was having the usual problems with the 1.2 patch(freezes, crashes, ect....) I posted my m2tw system log and was assured by a senior member of the forum that the problems were not being caused by a corrupted install or patch. I then got a ctd and an error message that explained that "insufficient memory" caused the crash.
I havent had any problems with memory on my other games.(company of heroes, civ 4 ect....)

Next, i decided to set all graphics settings to low and run a disk defrag. and shut down programs running in the background of my PC.

I have since reduced the amount of freezes and CTDS with m2tw 1.2 drastically.
Since i hadnt had any memory problems with m2tw before the patch, could the patch 1.2 alter the amount of instant memory needed to run the game????
Also,i have noticed that during battles i experience virtually NO lowering of my framerates. ,(before 1.2 i would sometimes have a temporary lowering of my frame rate due to large battles ect....) NOW... the game runs battles very smoothly, but sometimes it will just randomly freeze.
Have any of you noticed anything similar with insufficient memory or your frame rates.????????

    It's possible.

If I recall correctly, the 'insufficient memory' flag is triggered when one of two things occurs:
    • You run out of HDD space on your M2TW and/or boot partition - how much spare space do you have?
    • Your swap file is exceeded (rare; shouldn't be an issue)

heres some basic info about my pc

    XP professional (5.1, build 2600)

its an pentium 4 3.00 ghz

    510 mb ram

nvidia ge6600 overclocked <----i dont have problems with cooling

page file 389mb used, 843mb available

    direct x version 9.0c

i have a 250 GB hard drive and 74% free space

I hadnt had major problems with graphically intense games like M2tw, company of heroes, civ 4, flight combat sims ect....(just the normal temporary lowering of frame rates during intense scenes)

That is why i am wondering about the "insufficient memory" problems i have had with m2tw 1.2

: D I found your issue, you need more RAM(baaaaaah!) and that p4 is not helping your performance at all.

Apart from the general system performance, which worked fine before the patch, I can only guess that some of the texture updates must have pushed the total outside what your graphics card can support in onboard memory.

Turning the texture quality down in options should solve this.

if possible i suggest getting at least another 512mb stick of ram. if you have questions on that i suppose i can help you.

Well, before the patch i would experience framerate drops during battles ( you know the usual stuff ) but no game crashes due to lack of ram. I was just wondering if maybe for some odd reason the patch increases the demand on ram. thus causing the game to crash.

maybe its a reason for some of the mysterious CTDs that many people are having.

    just an idea.

yeah, next time i get a freeze or a ctd ill put them on. When i was having frequent problems, i posted my log. and i was told that the crash wasnt due to a corrupted install.

I know its a memory issue, but i had these problems after patching to 1.2
Many people have also had problems after patching.

maybe some of the updates in the patch.(textures, ect....) increase the amount of memory needed to run the game. thus causing crashes.
again i dont have low framerates during battles or the campain map. the game sometimes just crashes or freezes.

logs will help determine the issue, and i always say you cant have too much ram : D

Because you only have 512 megs of RAM your swap file defaults to 768, or 1.5 times the amount of installed memory which late in the game isnt enough.

As suggested you really need at least another 512 but short term you can manually increase your page file size.

Right click My Computer, select Properties, go to the Advanced tab, click Settings in the Performance section, go to the Advanced tab, in the Virtual Memory section click Change and set it to 1024.
