EXACTLY
In the Arts since it will be buried alive among the piles of threads in the ThemaDevia -
Originally from a world I made based upon alternate history routes of earth, I have begun
designing a costume for the sheer amusement of it.

I enjoy making props and costumes. The metalworking, old-fashioned sewing
(no sewing machines for me) the carpentry... but not the injuries (which I hope to avoid).
My first task was to design a costume based upon something of interest.
And although my drawing skills suck, and my scanner has failed me, I was successful.
I went with the Grand Sultan's Janissary Musketeers.
Contrary to actual history, the Janissaries in the alternate history did not become lazy
rich men ripping off the Sultan and abusing their power.
They stayed an elite unit of fighting men well into the 1800s.
Obviously that means they went through major changes in armament and structure.
This particular unit, the musketeers, wear a specific costume,
which I will try to describe until I get my scanner going.
It consists of pants, a short sleeve shirt, a light leather cuirass overtop, with
a typical desert headdress (plus a long brown cloak, only worn during travel),
tall boots, a crimson sash and belt, with a very small shield swung over their backs held by a strap.
They are armed with a long flat single edged sword, about 1 metre, and
a musket (or rifle, depending on the role).
Some of the men, who travel on the outside of the square, are armed with
a 2+ metre spear instead of a shield, used to deterr cavalry charges.
The fighting style can be compared to the Tercio, a mix of pikemen and musketeers,
except that here even the pikemen have ranged weapons.

Anyway, enough of that, now for the project:
For this I'll need a prop musket, the sword, the shield, and the armour.
And boots, but I'll have to shop for that. I'm not THAT good of a craftsman.
Now the easiest part I found was recycling an old armour set I made for a previous
costume (which I never finished). This is what I found lying around -
AMong this... LOL
Another project of mine... different era of course.
Anyway, for the first pic, I intend to refit the piece, remove the arm bits, take out some rivets,
redo it with better support, and make some belt loops to allow for tighter fitting.
Tally ho, off to work I go.
I still have the other bits to work on.
