Good Gaming Laptop
I am considering getting a laptop for playing games and doing the odd piece of work
, any suggestions?
And also would a macbook running windows be able to run games?

Do you need a laptop? You can get a much better desktop for cheaper, and it won't have as many problems, especially for overheating.

Gaming laptops that play games to an equivalent standard as desktops are known as desktop replacements. They have short battery life, are heavy and produce alot of heat. Portable laptops cannot play games very well for the above reasons.
Some macbooks do run windows nowadays, but most run OSX.
What is the reason you want a laptop instead of a desktop?

You can actually come fairly close to the performance of a desktop, but it will cost you big time. The cost of building at least two nice desktop gaming machines. Then like King Richard said, the battery will last you 20 seconds, defeating the whole purpose of owning a laptop.
