Papal States Bug?
The Sicilians occupied Rome and the Papal States was destroyed. Now the Pope is elected every single turn.

Re: Papal States Bug?
What is the age of the Pope when he dies? I sometimes go through periods where all the cardinals are close to death and quickly go through different Popes.
I was going to say they could be assasinating the Pope every turn but I'm not really aware of the computer doing something like that.

You're complaining because...?
If the Cardinals elected are old enough (around 60+) you can have Papal Elections every turn that way... not sure about your situation as I have never seen a faction attack the Papal States other than myself as the Moors. However, one time I called a jihad against Rome in a hope that someone else would take and hold it so the dang Pope would stop calling Crusades on Cordoba, but the Syrians lost it after a while to the Sicilians. I then assassinated all of Sicily's generals (an easy task, since they all sucked) and waited for the King that I couldn't quite kill to die and badabing, no more sicily. The interesting thing is, all during this time, the Papal States were still alive, who beseiged and took back Rome.

erm.. when Rome falls and the papacy has no more cities, it steals some other Catholic city (then they love the people they stole it off)
