You know it.But not many Americans seem to listin to it.I want to hear some real indie music but don't know were to look.Please Help.

Where are you located? I'm in Orange County, California, and there seems to be a nice sized following here.

What kind of indie do you enjoy? Something mellow like Andrew Bird? Electronic stuff like Martin Dosh? Or something to get you on your feet like The Go! Team?

"Indie," technically isn't a genre of music, it's a label applied to any genre of music that uses the Do It Yourself philosophy.

Silversun Pickups I've started listening to not long ago, their new album is dope.

And I don't listen to this kind of music. Period.

I recently looked into a lot of Indie bands and I wasn't really all that impressed.

So far my favorite indie band is the Decemberists, though they aren't technically Indie anymore.

Architecture in Helsinki perhaps?

OR maybe a local band (and a favorite of mine) Busman's Holiday?

I didn't even know that these bands were considered Indie.Some sound really cool and all but I was more looking for more of the old traditional stuff.Or even sorta beatles like,citars and stuff like that.Not modern Indian bands.Or whatever.

There are not a lot of Indians in West Bend WI.But,I think a lot people listin to those bands and don't think there Indie,

indy used to mean independent label. bands who got deals on small record labels or as someone put it 'bands with a DIY aproach'. now its changed a bit but its basically guitar based bands that are a bit different...basically whats in NME

Oh gawd. Can we please not use Indie to refer to a musical style. I consider many bands I listen to Indie, or having Indie roots, and find it offensive that their musical style should be associated with the crappy wave of Post-Punk bands flooding their airwaves right now
