New (possibly) patch 1.2 installation problems

Hello,
I have a problem with the 1.2 patch and was wondering if any of you experts would be kind enough to lend me a few moments of your time. Unfortunately, for entirely unrelated reasons, this forum does not work properly for me either. This means my problem may have already been answered but I cannot check. A thread that describes a similar problem (I can read the preview in the forum browser) is the following: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=112592 but I do not know if the exact circumstances are the same.

{Incidentally, my forum problems are probably the result of this computer being a particularly old specimen shared with a flatmate. My own, the one used for MTW2, is not hooked up at present. The problem is only in thread viewing – I can view the forums themselves and even post (obviously!) without plenty of hassle}.

Basically, I have been able to play the 1.0 version of the game with good details with no problem but as soon as upgrading to 1.2, the game does not want to start, either in campaign or battle mode, although loading the initial menus is fine (and v1.2 is displayed). Both modes’ problems are identical, the game appears to load for the first 1-10 seconds and then freezes. The following error accompanies it: "A fatal graphics error has occurred and the game will now shut down……". It goes on to say that I should reduce graphical options but this has been tried, at minimum levels, without success.

I have applied the 1.2 patch to a completely unchanged, newly installed game, even before playing it on one occasion. And there have been four re-installations so far, with no success. I have tried minimising graphical settings, sound settings and army/unit sizes. The patch took at least 18 minutes to install and seemed to be working fine until loading either a campaign or battle.

AMD 3000XP
1.5GB RAM
GeForce 7800GT
Windows XP SP2
DX9c
And .NET V2 is installed.

I don’t know if it’s of any use but I can email the contents of two system.log files after crashes to anyone interested in helping me. The first is after a ‘battle crash’ and the second a ‘campaign crash’. Each specifies a number of missing graphical files. I don’t know if they are loaded from the DVD or HD but the folders are definitely not present in the Sega/MTW2 folder on the hard drive, where there are only five folders: ‘animations’, ‘cursors’, ‘fmv’, ‘sounds’ & ‘world’.
