Default amd x2 4200+ good upgrade

I currently have a amd 3500+ single core not sure whether to buy a amd x2 4200+ dual core. Is it that good of an upgrade for only $80. I have a socket939 so not many choices.

We're in the same boat buddy. I've pretty much decided to hold out until I buy a new rig, which will be sometime next year. I've got 2 gigs of RAM and a 7950 GT, so I'm not really hurting too bad, but the CPU is getting a little long in the tooth.

For 80 dollars. Im looking at a review of that thing and wow is it over priced

$537 us dollars vs for Intel's entry-level dual-core part, the Pentium D 820 which clocks in at 2.8 GHz, is priced at $241 USD.

    Here is the review

    Hope it helps.
I have nothing against the womens movement. Especially when Im walking behind it.

Em, that is over two years old, Rush. Prices have slightly dropped since then. $80 for a 4200 X2 is actually quite good, considering that he could OC it to a 4800...

And clock speed is almost totally irrelevant when comparing different kinds of CPU's, I am sure the 4200 is better than the intel 2.8GHz - my 2.4GHz E6600 is way better than a pentium 2.8GHz!

My 3500 has seen me through a lot in the past, and it handles it's business well considering I've spent less than $1,000 on the whole rig and it's held out about 2 years. My games get played on high settings with no real downside so far, but the times they are a changing, so next year I'm gonna put her out to pasture and upgrade completely.

It only makes sense to do so if your going to keep it for another year or two.

For me, to keep my 939 PC going for the next couple of years, it would only cost me around $100-200 for a new cpu. Around the price of the motherboard alone if I was going to go with another build.

I have an Athlon 64 3200+ overclocked to 2.6ghz, and I really don't even need to upgrade any time soon, but will probably upgrade at the end of the year, also finally getting a new video card to replace my x800xl.
