    Default Unspecified error

I was getting CA_LIBS and I read the system.log and figured there were errors with my descr_movies.xls. So I simply found another copy and placed it into the folder (over the previous copy). After this, I get a unspecified error. Here is my system. log, and thank you in advance for your help.

    Your patch install is corrupted.

Your best bet is to uninstall the game, then reinstall and patch straight to 1.2 without editing any files.

Thanx anyway fellas. I hopefully will run into mistakes I can fix myself throughout this process!

Hi, that would be a first-timer and unlikely cause I downloaded from 2 sites already...and didn't change any file. I just bought the game yesterday. Anyway after uninstalling and trying to install again the disc stops at data_0.pack and I recieve a CRC. So. Whats wrong with this game. Did it change anything on my HD? I'll restart my comp again and try a third time. Boy, I'm not happy.

Sorry, I should have explained more.

It's your patch install that is corrupted, and that's causing the patching process to fail.

The patch download itself should be fine.

You need to uninstall the game, the reinstall it without applying any mods, previous patches (that means no 1.1), or cracks before patching to 1.2

    That should hopefully work.

I tried installing the 1.2 patch yesterday. That gave me the same problems as described here.

I've tried full reinstalls 3 times now on this computer. I even tried reinstalling on another (completely different) PC. The problem stays.

When installing from the original DVD's I get CRC errors for data0.pack & data1.pack (the installer continues after pressing ignore)

Patch 1.2 installs fine. But when I trie to launch the game I get the exact same errors.

    See log:

Hi, got my 1.0 game to work again after a full cleanup of my system....yippie. But don't dare to install the 1.2 patch. After reading about all the trouble people -including me- have. So, any thoughts? Where can I find a non-exe install? Like a rar or a zip version?

I doubt that'll be possible; as the patch edits rather than replaces the game files

P.S. This thread was hijacked lol.

I was wondering what I should be looking to fix if I just had an unspecified error. Which files or folders. That would be greatly helpful.

    Thank you for your time.

    hi all

first thing: i got the same unspecified error thing as many players around the world. but in two different "versions"
it is a shame for CA/Sega that they are unable to release a fixed patch, even after some month!

    my pc: Athlon64 X2 3600+, 1gig Ram, 7900GS, Win2000SP4
    162.18 graphics drivers
    German Version 1.0 of M2TW

tested the installation on harddrive C: as well as D:
version 1.0 and 1.1 runs fine, as for the most players.

these are my notices on the patch 1.2:
i (hopefully) will provide 2 reproducable versions of the same error

    Version A:

    1.
i installed a TOTAL fresh version of M2TW from the DVDs....this means cleaning the registry, the folders etc.
no 1.1 patch and no other modifications.

    2.
i installed the 1.2 patch right after the M2TW install....without reboot before...this is the suggested way in the official forums.

(note: the used fileīs name is: miitw_update2_efigs_rc_final.exe .... which indicates in the patch-installer a version 1.02.001 ... as i think this is the official release version, because its linked in the official forums

    - earlier i have tried another patch file "MIITW_Update2_Final_EFIGS.exe" which indicates a 1.02.000 version ....same crash.... whats the difference between them? is this the leaked version?)

    3. i reboot the pc.....then i start the game.
i instantly crashed after hitting the desktop icon

this is the log for it:

WOOOHOOO....i canīt believe it, now it works....after the 10th or 12th reinstall!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH!

but back to my intended topic, even if i canīt provide a systemlog for it now. but this is what iīve seen after so much reinstalls.

    Version B:

    1.
i installed a TOTAL fresh version of M2TW from the DVDs....this means cleaning the registry, the folders etc.
no 1.1 patch and no other modifications.

    2.
i installed the 1.2 patch right after the M2TW install....without reboot before...this is the suggested way in the official forums.

    3. i DONīT reboot the pc..... i start the game right after the patch-install.
the game opens, it shows 1.02 in the options screen.
i can start a campaign, but the game crashes when entering a battle (in campaign as well in qb/hb)

IIRC the system log is much longer than in version a, but a unspecified error occurs as desribed in 3.

=> this (version B) is what i just tried again, and this times it worked well, so i can run the 1.2 game......at least for this install....
perhaps the installer process itself has a problem with modifying the files...this may cause the crashes

=> on the other hand, rebooting the pc after patch-install is either unnecessary or can support the error....even if the sega forums suggests to reboot

i will keep my eyes open for additional informations about this error.

! for frustrated players/installers....keep installing it....it may work someday...

hopefully some other players can successfully play with 1.2

Hi, no I'm not. Just bought the game from the Free Record Shop. Which is a major cd/game store here.
    @ AngryAngelDD
I'm using an English version on my system. So it's not because you use the German version. I'm Dutch btw.

More people here with the same bleepbleep startup crash?

Well, I think your best bet is to do a full reinstall, then

That error sporadically pops up when people have modified core files, causing the patcher to fail

the patcher did not fail, all went successfully....THIS is the weird thing.
and i think after a fresh install the people have unmodified core files....
i would assume the patcher makes some errors in the core files.

anyway...it still runs...so far...i will make a post when the games stops working

    Hi,
    Finally good news.
Tried the MIITW_UPDATE2_EFIGS_RC_Final.zip again and now without the reboot and it is working!
So it had something to do with the reboot cause everytime I did that it failed.
    Problem solved.
