yeah I would definitely say it must be watched beginning to end in one sitting to have proper effect :O
but its a movie I never really heard much about , but definitely one of my favorites now that I have seen it.
Another movie I liked with around the same genre was the Illusionist. Both films were very good.
The Prestige is a great movie and will keep you guessing until the end. All most wished I saw it in the theater.
Arrogance is the Leading Cause of Defeat.

yeah that was the other one and I just caught it as well-- the illusionist was a totally different kind of piece--- interesting and good
the illusionist didnt have the same underlying snap to it.-- but like I said both movies well done, but of the two I would pick prestige.
but the prestige truly gave me a very creepy "dawning awareness" type feeling at the end. which was just fantastic.
and you know what im talking about :O
I would have liked it better if Tesla wasn't so, uh, "central" to the storyline, shall we say. That is, the fanciful effect of Tesla on the story made it merely a "good" as opposed to "great", which it would have been if it focused purely on the real magic.
The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.
H. L. Mencken
It was interesting, but overall forgettable.
@drexxus yes it was strange that both movies came out at the same time with the same general backdrop but a totally different story in each.
I expected nothing when I saw The Prestige, and I half watched it the first time and was impressed but still had no idea what was going on.
So I watched it a second time and it blew me away. It was cast so well--I liked Bowie as well. Every now and then I think of something from the movie and think, "Fk yeah!"
The Prestige is a pretty good movie. I liked the multiple perspectives they had during the film, relating to the different time. It is always good to have two rivals in a film. Most of the time the protagonist and antagonist are just a good and bad guy but in the Prestige it was more than good and bad. It was about beating each other and (in case of Hugh Jackman) by any means possible. I very much enjoyed this movie when I saw it in theaters. I like the feel it has to it. It is well paced as well. This movie from Christopher Nolan is much better than his Batman Begins. What I like about this movie is that it makes you think. For some the three different story/time arcs will be a bit confusing but that is what makes this movie different. Everyone in this movie is great and even though I knew what would happen at the end of the movie it was still awesome. That doesn't happen very often. I highly recommend this movie.

I enjoyed it very much for all reasons posted above + this creepy feeling when Tesla's machine is sen left in the hotel.
I enjoyed Batman Begins more (as an old Batman comic fan ), but all Nolan's movies have this 'something' which makes me want to see that again...
In addition it is a fine show of 'steam punk' SF.![]()
