Default Possible problem? maybe a trojan.

so lately, my CPU usage has be at 100%. I check what processes are running and there is one called "ashWebSv.exe" I've no idea what it is, but it is continually using 85-99 of my CPU and hovering around 120,000 K of Memory usage. obviously a bad thing. I'm afraid to end the process because it's labeled System, and I've never heard of it before.

I've run Ad-aware and my Avast, with not luck.
Would really like to know what it is, and why it's making my computer work so hard. Anyone know?

According to a quick google search that process is part of the avast security suite which protects you from incoming threats.

Either you're being continually attacked by something or there's an error with the program.

well, it is more than possible that there is something wrong with the program seeing as how I haven't updated it in a couple of months and it has been continuously telling me to update. Hopefully the answer is as simple as that. I'll try to update avast then.

Im willing to bet it is avast. I have similar issues with my laptop, I haven't reinstalled windows in around 4 years and things are just getting a bit out of hand. My problem is with windows services though, and I have yet to look into which service it is. I'm just lazy and don't use the laptop much.

avast could be trying to update itself continuously I suppose. Try turning automatic update off, or really a fresh install of avast should solve the problem.

I solved it, all I had to do was re-register my avast software and everything seems to be working swell now. Thank you

    Good news.

You should really take the time to update your antivrus every now and then, as from the sounds of it you haven't been doing so and this puts you at more risk at virus'.

I'd recommend once a week, in fact that's what most people have told me.
