Question 1: After the time is up, you must sally(Select your army and attack the besieger) or your army capitulates due to lack of supplies.

Question 2: Assasins require a third level market. Those are called either Baazars, Great Markets, or Forums.

Also, know that you can "sally forth" every turn before the turn limit gets to 0. For example, if you have ranged units, or simply think you can weaken the enemy more than it would hurt you, sally forth. Use all your ammo or do whatever, and when you think you've done all you can, have your units go back inside your fort. If they are all inside and all enemy units are outside, press ESC and hit "end battles". It will be a "draw" and the siege will continue. Then next turn you can do it again. Just know that once it says that your settlement's food will only last one turn, you only have one more chance to break free. If you fail, you lose all of your troops and the city, so go all-out in that battle.

Yeah, it was a surprise to me when I first heard it, too. Thanks to sallying forth, I managed to beat away three egytian full stacks in a row with one half stack in a fort. Thank God for my unit of Cretans and my unit of Rhodian Slingers.

Remember, your archer's ammo reloads every battle .

Sallying is my trick for defending cities as a nomad faction. I keep peasants in my cities as the normal garrison, then move some horse archers in if it looks like it will be besieged. Then every turn I sally with the horse archers to whittle down the enemy.

I draw them close to the towers so they can shoot them to pieces, use up all my own arrows, then go back inside and let the clock run out. Next turn I do the same, and so on, until either the siege is broken or a relief army can come up.

You can press Esc and go to "Exit Battle" if your units are all inside and theirs are outside, you don't have to wait for the time to run out.

I do not recommend that. The battle does not end when you press Escape. The computer auto-resolves the rest of it, and you wind up taking losses you would otherwise not. Even if all your people are in the walls and you hit Escape, you will take losses. It is always best to let the time run out.

Yea, this is very useful as especiallly Schythia, Armenia or Parthia. Their horse archers are too quick to get caught.
