    Default Making a Danish empire

i just wanted to start a discussion on the different ways people tackle the danish campaign. personally i go for the mainland provences first (Stettin, Magdeburg, and Antwerp) and from there to the provences on the Baltic (Oslo, Stockholm, Riga, and Helsinki). any other ways to make denmark a powerhouse?

First thing I do is make 2 big militia armies (1 for each general) which I use to take Hamburg, Magdeburg, and Stettin. (I almost ALWAYS have to buy Stettin or Magdeburg from the polish)

After I secure those, I move on to the Baltic. While doing that, I make a big army in Hamburg to attack the HRE with my prince. King Knud takes a bunch of Raiders from Oslo and navally invades Inverness( ), where I expand down the isles.

    From there, its always different.

When I'm Denmark, I assault England first thing. I would grab the north coast so that I got excellent money flowing in (I think the northern sea creates something around 8000 or 10000 bucks at times, beats the hell out of Corinth in this game). I would try to ally myself with Hungry but since I see allies useless now, it's pointless. I kill, not make peace; I don't make war only if I need money.

I usualy take the rebbels on the french/lowlands, then scandinavia. That usualy gives me a big income, whitch I use to grind down thos boddy souercraut eaters (HRE). They are usualy in atleast 1 other war at the time, so it's quite easy. After that, I usualy "aquier" the english islands before I procede to whipe out the snobby bastards in france. When france are gone, I usualy go to a skirmish/raiding war against the strongest faction, mainly targeting the economy/production.

My danish strat is first to secure the scandinavian lands, second the british isles, third the northern sea coastal cities.
From that point you just need to conquer the rest of the world.
Anyway, Hamburg should be secured as your first movement, and it'll lock your scandinavian possessions.
Taking the forts around could be a good option early on but that would hasten a war with poland.

I just finished a Danish campaign.

I took the German rebel cities first (Hamburg and maybe something else), then Scandinavia, then the Antwerp and Bruges. I like to expand into the available rebel cities before taking on an actual rival empire.

At that point, I was allied with France, Russia, and the HRE, so my options for expansion were England/Scotland, Poland, Hungary.
It didn't take long for most/all of them to declare war on me, so I just waited it out and prepared for the inevitable attacks in the meantime.

I took over the British isles without any problems (Scotland first, then England), mostly fought defensively against Hungary, and expanded a bit into Poland but didn't bother chasing them too far into the steppe territories.

thanks for all those great ideas but i cant help but notice that the first major offensive that is made against a rival faction(s) is against scotland and engalnd in the british iles. why not poland or russia? i've been at war with poland but never russia. either way i look at it, fighting either of them would be a pain because both of them rely on horse archers and dont really have much of a standing army. anybody try to eliminate them first?

I guess if you can take them out early... It's just really difficult with Denmark because you don't have the anti-cav infantry or strong cavalry.
And every game that I've played, Poland expands really quickly, usually to the east. When I was Denmark I didn't do a lot of offense against Poland. They declared war on me, and I pretty much let them die on my city walls.

But like I mentioned before (I think) I'm not a huge fan of expanding to the big empty territories in Russia. Nothing there, and you've got a big bulls-eye on you for the Mongols.

    But that's just me.

Danes have very strong AP infantry, use it. Just stop cavalry charges with your generals, then destroy it with your axes.
Do emphasise on that infantry, it's totally rocks.
Remember, when plain DFK's type is abit more durable, but every single piece of danes have armor piercing bonus.
    Battles pretty simple and brutal

I usually ally with poland, and invade HRE and England at the same time.

England betrayed me so i took the isles. France was the HRE's vassal until the HRE betrayed me and attacked with Poland.. Russia was at war with Poland so i though i could use an extra spear. Scotland attacked France when they were my allies, so my choice was France.

The Danish campaign is tricky because at VH/VH, you'd have the HRE, the Poles, the French, the English and Russians attacking you all the time. Although this campaign will be highly situational-dependent, I'd recommend sending spies and doing a fast-expansion into the south by striking at weakly-defended settlements. Taking over the British isles would be a great mid-game strategy.

If you really like the Danes, I'd download Stainless Steel 4.0 Theres 3 more
Norse settlements alone, 3 more in British Isles, and a load more across the map. Danes also get Dismounted Norse War Clerics.(macemen, best unit for Danes imo)
