    Default Victoria Help

i 'purchased' victoria/revolutions last month and ive had a few problems playing as nations like Italy; getting industry off the ground was so hard i had to repeatedly cheat (doesnt bother me at this stage of noobness anyway), and revolts seem to be widespread and i cant seem to put these revolt risks down no matter how long i hav an army sat there...

So my question is; how the hell do i get my revolt risks down? and how do i get my capitalists to build stuff/upgrade factories and so forth?

if you view the population of a single province, and put your mouse over any pop (one set of catholic italian labourers or something), it will show their militancy, and the rate at which it is growing or subsiding. Things that effect militancy include taxes (low = happy), social reform (provided you're actually funding it), if you're at war, if you've mobilized your reserves, certain events that raises militancy of a certain social class or classes, or members of a certain ideology (liberal and socialist revolutions for example), or a certain culture. Also, if you have a Monarchy or presidential dictatorship, high plurality causes militancy. There is very little you can do to squash plurality...there are a few events that happen that do lower them if you research certain culture techs and happen to have a dictatorship of one form or another.
Banning parties during an election can also have a negative effect on militancy, primarily among supporters of that party.
If I'm not mistaken, unemployment causes unhappiness as well...

I'm unsure if religion has any effect whatsoever...

If you play your cards right, you won't have to change your govt to keep your people content...but sometimes you just have to comply with what the people want. You *could* theoretically kill ALL of them...but as unhappiness grows your army may burn their uniforms and revolt against you as well (generally, I've not had this happen to me en masse)

As for industrialization, and assuming you have no elections, try putting a laissez faire party in charge, your capitalists will build factories and railroads for you.

wicked, so i set all taxes to zero, no revolts w00t... still having issues with capitalists though - they dont want to expand any of my factories even though some of them are loaded with cash, have no tariff no tax and laissez faire/free trade as policies etc...Im also finding it extremely irritating that i cant do anything with my populations when laissez faire is a policy - i have so many unassigned people in one province and i cant change them at all or build a factory there to put them to work.

You're making any money at all with 0% taxes and no tariffs? :o
Make sure you're not accumulating debt, game charges interest and you get an income penalty...

Taxes are generally ok to have as long as they aren't about...I'd say 40% at the very most. Or unless you want to piss off your country (or certain bloc of society, but that's mean ...I've heard of people who get european majorities in Africa by having to put down constant rebellions in addition to emigration).

Not able to convert, say, labourers into craftsmen? Sure that A. they're an accepted culture, and B. You have the resources? (you're Italy/piedmont right?)

Currently I'm playing the Victoria Improvement Project for Revolutions...I may reinstall vanilla to see what's what.

I 'acquired' Victoria the other day.

I am utterly befuddled by it. Compared to EUIII it is as user friendly as a kick in the balls.

I tried Russia (I have Revolutions) and poof! All of my Empire went red (look at the revolts screen) in a matter of days. Most disheartening...

only way i got rid of the revolts was by setting all taxes to 0 for quite some time (thus cheating by spamming up funds when i got low), eventually u can bring the taxes back up safely.

Victoria is hard...Thank god for the Money cheat..And thank god for this AAR: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/...4&page=5&pp=20

Still all the cheats that i used could not save me from the Russians...Why the hell did they send 440,000 soldiers to Greece? in 1869! My 140,000 where no match for them and now i'm a sattilite and lost much of my hard fought territory to those damn Russians!

yea u do not wanna fight the russians on your own, theyve attacked me twice in the last 20 years as my reborn roman empire made it to the ME (the ottomans still exist in turkey), the first time i got an alliance with the germans and the ottomans (thru the germans i think it was) and russia ended up losing (they had sent a hell of a lot of men through iraq/syria) giving quite a few provinces to the ottomans and a couple to germany.

The second time i had 25 divisions guarding the only province i had connectio nwith them (a mountainous region i was building a fort on), they allied with romania who declared war upon me, foolishly i did not think i needed to mobilise for a while - until over 112 divisions fell upon my 25; i abandoned all of the ME as far down as petra/sinai area where i had level 6 fortifications and a large PDN fleet to provide gunfire support, was a long rearguard action but i spammed up a hell of a lot of troops (some 65 divisions in egypt and another 20 in newly aquired romanian lands), these together with mobilisation and support from my satellites belgium and france, managed to stave off russian overrun of the sinai. However even then i had to get help from the ottomans to block off the pocket some 150 russian divisions were sitting in before i could advance effectively and utterly destroy the russian forces in the ME.

The war has only just moved onto russian lands now, i find it irritating that i cannot win lands for allies in peace treaties, and when u make peace without them getting anythign the relations take a steep downturn.

Anyhow after the russian war is over im probably going to swarm the spanish with the massive army i now have (eventhough the spaniards are the only great power on decent terms with me), and then at the end of the game finish it off by taking turkey to complete (pretty much) the 20th century Roman Empire heh..

ofc ive been cheating........Ill post some pics up later if my net at home ever comes back up.

Right, the slightly different green over my provinces in the ME is basically how far the russians got when they attacked. the red line near the sinai and petra is where i managed to turn the tide. as engaging some 150 + russian divisions with 25 is obviously suicidal, i had to play it smart with rearguard actions and destroying their smaller armies as they spread out to take the ME after the initial invasion. I had several fortifications i moved to each time, the final line would be the sinai but as its one province i would probably be decimated as they focused their forces again, so i settled on 2 provinces infront (thus protecting my satellite, hedjaz too) and brought everything i had over from france where most of my forces were concentrated, another 30 or so i had mopping up the romanians (most of them were mobilised forces) on top of some 65 divisions being trained in modern day cairo. My satelites, belgium and france, sent me expeditionary forces (15 divisions for the french and 8 for the belgians) which were greatly appreciated in beefing up my defence before the 65 new ones came into play.

when i had eventually built this massive army up i sent a small group (14 divisions) from romania round to the gulf to land in basrah and try drawing troops away from my coming offensive in the eastern med. The russians sent off some 30 divisions to clear this problem up so after taking a few provinces back there i fled (things werent helped when the persians decided to join the russians..i had given the persians so much tech in the previous century when they were fighting the ottomans with me)

My entire navy (except 15 submarines) were sat in the eastern med to provide gun fire support (and lots of it.) as my offensive began, 80+ divisions in 2 spearheads, combined with a new alliance with the militarily powerful ottomans sent the russians into disarray and it became a massacre, 3/4 of Russia's divisions were annihilated in the ME as they were penned in.

Just a minute ago they asked for peace and gave the ottomans some provinces, thus ending their border with me and hopefully any future aggression. Now its time to move everything over to spain and wtfpwn them, and hopefully by the end of the game i can return to the ottomans and take turkey (i had planned on invading the UK prior to the russian war, but they have a scary amount of ships, i couldnt even get past gibralter in an earlier war with my entire navy there. So itll have to be the roman empire with a couple of bits missing)

    ----

since that pic ive taken most of spain.. and only 200points behind the americans on industry power as a result.

Your empire is quite big! But I wonder how big is your colonial empire?

Germany just declared war on me! (I'm playing as the Netherlands) but they where in for a surprise! France, Uk, Greece (A big player thanks to me) Spain declared war on them and now in 1880 the whole world is at war with each other. Austria betrayed Germany and sided up with Italy against Germany the Ottomans on the other hand declared war on Greece and got in a Alliance with Germany.. And then there was Portugal that also sided up with Germany (Not in a alliance but since they declared war on Spain) And now i'm waiting for my 27 division strong reserve to mobilize!

    Spain was that industrialized? Curious...
I played a game as them (typically I don't like playing as a great power, they're a lesser power with great potential, civilized, large population...) and I was hovering around 5th or so at best...

In any case, I don't think you can expect to play this game like EUIII, conquering huge tracts of land (without population deportations which isn't nice and a little cheap). I personally think it's cooler to achieve Greatest power status by warring rather conservatively and developing your country internally intensively. (via industrialization, which includes the development of factories AND infrastructure aka railroads)

But I love playing realistically...I generally feel it is the best way to play. Harass me via PM and MSN live messenger ferrets and carach, it's a lot more easy for me to explain individual nuances I think in real time.

well i finished the game, need to 'aquire' hoi2 now to transfer it and learn how to play that too heh.

i took most of portugal after that screenshot, bringing me into a war with the UK. I gained several provinces in africa out of it and got into some inconclusive fleet battles in the straights of dover (i had planned to invade Britain itself but i simply lacked the warships and ended up penned in at dunkirk)

So i finally gained dreadnaught, light cruiser and battle cruiser technologies and spammed up quite a few of these to combat the RN (which was substantially decreased in size and power after their fights with me in which they lost slightly more than i did). After destroying the fleets in dover and newcastle i dropped some 40 divisions on the british isles and took england.

    http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/3...ire1934ff6.jpg

i changed government to communist in order to upgrade railways and factories (as well as actually build new factories) that capitalists had utterly failed (as they had done throughout the game without vast amount of cheating) to do themselves.. Of course it became a dictatorship and after it had served its purpose i changed back to free parties and held an election (it reverted back to dictatorship twice during elections).. elections didnt end before the game ended though. My industry at the end of the game was something like 14897

I gave a lot of land to the ethiopians and i plan to give all my african posessions bar the roman provinces to them.
