Diplomacy AI Rant
So, I'm playing as Spain. Since the second turn or so, I've had a marriage alliance with France. I've been a good ally too! I took Bordeaux and gifted it to France. Later, when Milan came rampaging through their lands at the same time my Prince returned from the Crusades, he retreived Toulouse and Dijon for France. Toulouse was exchanged for mutual military passage.
Now, it turns out that France has allied with the Moors. It's about time for a reconquista. My relations with France are Perfect. The SAME turn that I gave them Dijon, I attacked Cordoba, and they cancelled the alliance.
It just doesn't make any sense! France has received incredible amounts of aid from Spain. Spain happens to be poor, but has a strong military. They have a good reputation and are, on the whole, extremely chivalrous.
Gah!

Man, the french have no honor! Instead of attacking the Moors, I just waited. Bulit up my own nation. Gained Portugal as a vassal. Then the Moors attack. France breaks its alliance with the Moors. Awesome!
Later on, after a long period of peace, they decide it's a good idea to blockade one of my ports. No troops, just a blockade. Apparently that city was selling opium or something. I respond by taking Toulouse, Bordeaux, and Marseille. After a period of intense fighting (on my territory only because the pope decided to stick his pointy hat in my business every 8 turns to tell me not to attack France for 7 turns.) Meanwhile, my relations with the pope are going down for defending my own territory. France, btw, has recently been excommunicated and has worse relations with the pope than I do. Not to mention, I've built cathedrals in all of my cities.
Finally, I decide enough is enough. I didn't want southern France anyways. I'll stick with Iberia and Northern Africa, thanks. So, I offer them a ceasefire, all three of their cities, and trade rights. They of course accept. Not a decade later they decide to attack again. (This time at least with troops) Only problem for them is, I've built 4 forts in the Pyrenees each loaded with around 5 sword and buckler units and 5 almughavers (each with full armor upgrades). I haven't got to see how it played out yet because of crash when attacking the French army outside my fort.
Seriously though, those Frenchies are dishonorable bastards. And for some reason, MY reputation is "despicable". Puh leeze.

Re: Diplomacy AI Rant
Your reputation is based on how often you kill prisoners/sack or exterminate a province when you take one as well as how many alliances you betray.

Too many complete sentences, and not enough Rant. Quite frankly, I'm dissapointed. I came in here for a damn rant, and I want one!

Re: Diplomacy AI Rant
that's just spam me thinks, anywho...I like the way the AI works right now. And I mean, if one of your allies drops you over a war, then start sabotaging them. anyway, France and Spain are extremely strong in my campaign as Venice.
However I don't appreciate the Pope's nosing, but it was kind of the deal of the time...I've been excommunicated once for retaliating for 2 turns against germany, but I was reconciled fairly quickly.
Also, if you're wanting to be more diplomatic I've noticed that if you're attacking a town/fort or whatever...if you offer a ceasefire demanding that settlement, they AI will usually accept. That is assuming you have surpeme military power. That's my experience at least. I've played around a lot with diplomacy, seeing what I can and can't do.
another tip...keep your border settlements fully stacked if you can afford it, the AI doesn't seem to want to attack full stacks when they're starting a war.
