Core Duo vs Core 2 duo

Alright guys i got a bit of a problem, i ordered a system with Core 2 Duo T7200 2.00 GHz, but got one with Core Duo T2600 2.16GHz. Which one is faster? On my computer it registers the performance of Core 2 duo T7200 as 4.9/5, while it registers the Core Duo T2600 4.8/5. Is there a significant difference? Remember,

Core Duo is not the same as Core 2 Duo. They use diffrent architechtures. Other than that I am clueless between the differences.

Edit: I found that the Core Duo T2600 2.16 GHz is about 100 dollars more expensive than the Core 2 Duo T7200 2.00 GHz. Does the price back up the performance? Thanks guys

Your computer registers the performance? Are you speaking of the Windows Vista test?

The only difference between those two CPUs is 160 MHz, so if that translates to .1 points on the Windows Vista performance test, I'd say that is no real difference.

The different architecture is the key here. Core 2 Duo knocks the socks off of everything else currently.

As you can see the Core 2 Duo is superior in almost every way, and this adds up to equal the rave reviews that Core 2 Duo has been receiving. Further benchmark comparison is easilly found using a simple google search.

It is up to you if you want to spend the extra money, but Core 2 Duo has not left AMD in a world of trouble for nothing.

Here is a CPU comparison chart for specifications. I notice the processors you mentioned are not listed, but take a look anyway.

Windows Vista's benchmark/comparison statistics are best used as the roughest of guides, if you are geniunely going to use it at all. It is no equal to dedicated benchmarking suites that can be freely downloaded. I have read some articles where Vista benchmarking compared to vigorous dedicated benchmarking suites shows extremelly anomolous results.

Ok, this is very odd. I fired up the Core Duo system (2.16ghz) and it performed MUCH better when playing games vs the Core 2 Duo system (2.00 GHz). I have a notebook,

2 GB ram
Nvidia GeForce Go7950gtx
Core duo system has 140 GB HD space
Code 2 Duo system has 120 GB HD space.

Can anyone figure out why my core duo system is outperforming my core 2 duo system so badly?!?!

Also, is there any way to overclock a notebook processor? Yeah, i have never overclocked in my life.

It depends upon the components of the system you used to test both processors, not least upon your motherboard.

You have that in your laptop? If not and thats the one from your desktop pc its no wonder it performs better.
