I decided to start a new Polish campaign after installing gigantus' map fix (I am physically incapable of continuing an old campaign if any sort of update is available). M / VH.

I quickly took Olmutz and Prague, then settled on building my infrastructure while the peace lasted. Kievan Rus and Hungary went to war, and in exchange for allying with them (and ending the war, as Hungary were already my allies) the Rus gave me Thorn as well. With five provinces, I was feeling pretty good about myself, and planned a marine excursion to take over Gotland.

Winter, 1102. German armies litter the Polish countryside. Our capital of Krakow is under siege, and my recently formed second army is in the midst of retraining. After many years of hard fighting, I was finally able to take the fight to the HRE. Setting my eyes on Vienna, I sent my most promising young general, Boleslaw Herman, to capture the city. Our Kingdom desperately needed the gold to be had from sacking such a settlement!

Boleslaw made it across the Danube unmolested and hurried to Vienna, knowing fullwell that his countrymen were desperately fending off Imperial forces in the lands he left behind him. He laid siege to Vienna and looked poised to take it, when...

    BEEP. POPE SAYS NO.

    ...crap.

Four fully armed Imperial armies approached Boleslaw's position and he made a hasty retreat, not wishing to defy the Holy See. His forces reached the river Danube before being ambushed by Imperial army after Imperial army...here is the story of one such battle.

The Danube offers the defender unparalleled conditions.

Polish Nobles look on as a second Imperial army enters the meat grinder.

The Imperial captain dies an indignant death despite his men's attempts to save him.

The remnants of the Imperial armies attempt delay the inevitable in the face of the Polish onslaught.

Boleslaw Herman is gaining quite the reputation for killing German scum...one day he shall exercise the skills he learned at the Danube and take Vienna as he promised to do.

Awesome pics Ninefingers! How do you take screenshots like that in game by the way? Just hit print screen? Might post some of one of my campaign battles.

Seriously, very nice battle. I like the second pic - "the meat grinder." They lost 1700 or so men to your 60. That's pretty good, I'd say

    @Jethrokirby

Yeah, just hit print screen - the images are saved to your Medieval II Total War\tgas folder.

Personally, I use irfanview to batch convert the .tgas to .jpeg format and then upload them to an image hosting site like [url=http://photobucket.com/]Photobucket or ImageShack.

If anybody else has pics, feel free to post them here! I may get around to posting some pics later of my Grand Russian campaign! Yup, figured ninefingers was already doing the Polish campaign but wanted a little of that Eastern front action! So went with Russia!

Already have a Western border extending from the Black Sea to the Baltic! And the Poles have already started picking on me!

These may be a bit redundant and/or boring, but I'm just so into this campaign that I can't help myself. Forgive me!

In 1108, the war with the Holy Roman Empire seemed to draw to a sudden and unexpected halt. The papal decree hung over King Wladyslaw's head, but Poland had seen many battles regardless as the Imperial armies continued their onslaught until...they stopped. Sniffing a similar decree issued to the Emperor, Wladyslaw laid a trap to goad the Germans to their doom...

...in 1109, Polish spies discovered an Imperial army lying in ambush near the castle of Wrocislaw. Marching an army past them, the Germans proved too undisciplined to abide by their Emperor's orders and attacked. Their army was decimated - and the Empire was excommunicated.

Boleslaw Herman, reknowned for his abilities, was appointed to lead a Crusade on the Imperial city of Milan. Mustering every available faithful recruit in the lands, he destroyed many German armies plaguing his homelands, sacked and conquered Nurenberg and finally took Milan. Sacking the city for every precious coin he could find (which the Polish coffers desperately needed), he sold the city to the Genoan merchants as per his King's orders. His army still able, Boleslaw was tasked with one last deed - the conquest of Innsbruck.

The famed capital of the Empire fell without much of a fight, as German armies faced scattered Polish ambushes near Magdeburg and Nurenberg. A hero unlike any that Poland had ever seen, Boleslaw, now known as the Silver-Tongued for his inspiring speeches, was appointed to govern Innsbruck and defend Polish interests from Italian excursions.

His retirement would be short-lived, however, as the previously firendly Genoans, in their endless greed, declared war on Poland and sought to take Innsbruck for their own purposes.

Many battles were fought on the walls of the castle, and countless Italian lives were lost to the blades and spears of the Polish elite. Boleslaw's small band grew ever smaller but all the more determined, and their exploits will be retold for generations to come....

    A sampling of Boleslaw's skill:

Thanks again for the excellent mod, Socal! I haven't been this enthralled by a campaign in ages and ages! Every turn is a veritable bloodbath, and every gain feels truly earned.

Thanks! I'm having a damn fine campaign myself right now! Playing the Russians and have been at war with Poland for 20-odd years now. Thing is I haven't been able to expand Eastward at all. Been busy protecting my Western border. Not even bothering with taking Polish territory at all as I don't want to spread myself thin.

Highlights from ninefingers' latest Polish update:

1] That poor Genoese crossbow militia getting run through by that Dismounted Polish Noble's sword! Ouch! And just a stupid knife to protect himself! Who ordered him to take those walls?!?!?

2] The absolute carnage in front of that gate. Those Dismounted Polish Nobles/Retainers are literally wading chest-high through bodies! Gruesome!

EDIT - Forgot to mention, what happend to Caen, Davidus? France give you the boot? Aside from that, that's a nice British empire you have going! I'd be afraid to face that Longbow army!

Hopefully, I'll get the chance to post some more screens later. But here are two screens from my Russian Campaign during the War of Polish Agression. My general Mikhail and about 400 men held off 1000 Polish troops and just when all hope seemed lost, our leader, Vladimir and his army arrived!

    PRO DEO ET REGE!

    Cheers!
