    Default MARCH STRAIGHT PLEASE!!

Ok. I am really pissed at my men. First, i put them into groups like anyone would. Then when i order then to march front, by clicking directly at the front of the middle unit, they start marching to the sides instead of straightly. Then, in the end i get intercepted before i could get them into straight ranks again. What is happening? How do i get them to look to the front and march properly? I could easily do this with a single click to the front in mtw2.....so whats the deal here? Btw, i'm already using patch 1.5.

you need to pause the game and order every unit to attack the one you wish

or hold the right mouse button and playe them in front of enemy and the attack

Drag a line, that's much safer. If you're clicking your men will turn if you aren't clicking exactly in the middle. This is much of a problem, especially when you're only going to move your men a meter or two.

Pause or not...whatever you're more comfortable with

    1. Group units in the formation you want
    2. Select the entire "group"(by clicking the tab with the Roman numeral of the group
    3. It's probably best to pause here...right click(HOLDING THE BUTTON) and drag the cursor to the right, exactly where, and the direction, you want them to move to*

*what will happen is that, after selecting your group and then holding the right mouse button, a 'footprint' will appear on the ground(green arrows showing the direction and formation your men will be in) on the location you want them to move to...if you do this directly in front of a stationery group you can effectively ensure that they march straight ahead...also during the 'pause' screen you can push/hold down the 'space bar' on the keyboard and this will show you where your units will end up

Also, I believe the cursor is aligned to a specific soldier(when moving multiple units) so that should give you an idea of where you can/cant align multiple units...but I don't know which one(if any)...I just pause and keep adjusting the 'footprint' until it's exactly where I want it

I hope all that made sense...

Don't click them onto an enemy unit. But rather, click your phalanx behind the enemy unit or in front (towards the middle of the enemy, but not on the enemy). If you click on the enemy, your men will bunch up into one incoherent blob...

...As they get closer to the enemy, you can call a halt and straighten your phalanx back out. Or you can start attacking different segments of the enemy's infantry. But once again, if you click on one enemy, they're going to bunch up into one giant messy blob.

There's no need to pause the game. And if you're practicing to play online, then don't ever pause the game.

Well the basics of marching units and rotating them:

There are two ways to do this, the first is with groups and the second is with fancy rotating and stuff. I personally never use groups as they can get annoying. But if i have a v wide, long formation then groups are best to use.

    First method:

select the men you wish to move/ rotate/ get into correct formation. Using Ctrl and Shift or the hot keys to get the certain type you want (eg infantry) now that you have done that to move keeping in the same direction as before hold down ALT and right click. They will move forwards and not rotate to face the enemy Automatically. to Rotate use the , and . keys (they also have < and > on them) holding down the keys will rotate the unit and bring up the yellow markers to help.

    Second method:

this is with groups and is useful at start of battle to group them all and move them like this. First Group them up and then just drag them to rotate, v simple but not as flexible as above method as when you need to rotate or orientate half the unit you need to un group and re group.

I personally use the first method as i like it and i hate groups

I also advise you not to pause as there is no point, if you can't play the game without pausing then why bother. try playing online for a bit then you will soon get used to not pausing and learn how to move your men (or women in some cases) easily.

Select everyone you want to move, then hold ALT and right-click where you want them to go. ALT makes them keep their orientation, so they're square and straight even if you don't click exactly in the middle. Also, use the SPACE BAR to verify their final position.

Are these reliable? I have never heard of using such keys before.

Spacebar definitely works! I've never used the "Alt" key for anything but attacking.

But Spacebar...when you press/hold it shows where your men will be and what direction they will be facing.

    Sorry for being facetious

Anyhow, I rarely trust AI pathing. I almost always right drag & drop (or alt+r.click) my units, and double-check with the spacebar.

Also, if you group units, when you drag & drop them, they will retain their formation -- 95% of the time. Sometimes it doesn't work, I'm too lazy to find out why. Anyways, try it out in a custom battle or something.

I wish the units were programed to run 'around' enemies unless they were specifically ordered to attack...

the pathfinding aspect of the battlemap is horrible
