Favourite RTW expansion

Hello all!

Wich expansion do you prefer, Alexander or Barbarian Invansion?

I prefer BI.

Well, I've never played Alexander, but CA did a good job with BI, despite it's still being inferior to RTW and quite too much war oriented. I mean, you don't even have time to build up before these full stacks reach you and burn and loot all what you dedicately set up for yourself.

But it's rather amusing to pillage everything on your way. All you need is a bunch of illiterate, poor and starving levies and the will to fight! Then you'll get a lot of gold .

hordes annoy me, too.
I play with some faction and then, out of nowhere comes three to four full hordes to attack me....

I didn't like either of them much the hordes in BI were really annoying because whatever faction I played they would get in my way because when you destroy another faction they become a horde and often tried and attack you.This also meant I couldn't really play the Goths because right at the start huns or vandals comeand kill samarta which creates another horde and they all go straight through my land and obliterate me!!!!!
Anyway alexander really sucked you got 100 turns their was only about 4 factions and you really had to blitzkreig which was boring the historical battles were cool though basically Bi is better.
On that note is their a good mod for BI otherwise it just seems like a waste of money.

I voted for BI because of the IBFD mod which is superb and is everything that BI should have been... and more!

Alexander is total crap .The macedonian units are approximattely OK,but the persians suck so mush that I run away .
BI is nice if you play one of the Roman Empires .But it's too intense and lacks strategy to involve .I don't know why I like it .Perhaps for the nice units and the big battles that can be formed .

I didnt really like BI and didnt play alexander.

BI i disliked becasue of the hordes, on one of my campaigns I took out franks last city 7 times, I could never get all their stacks after taking their last city and i always found them somwhere else and I would take that city and they send all the hordes back at me on that same city with a weak garrison after trying to take it, this happened until I brought 3 stacks with me to force them away.

And the Huns came through my lands and decided to settle in them, smack in the middle aswell

This is also provoking and a question of tactic .The hordes wallking around didn't take even 1 city of mines .I have a full defensive garrison and I move it from one city to another closest to them if they besiege it .Otherwise I cannot afford the expenses . They are also in the habbit of besieging Massilia to which I cannot bring troops quickly from Italy because they block the roads .So I park some few units on a 3 ship fleet and put them near Massilia if they come too close,if they go to Italy,I disembark them there .But the main tactic is to build a full army 20 units of Sarmatian Auxilia with 1 general .Used wisely they'll slaughter all barbarian units even spearmen .

So just defeat them in a siege and then rush the Sarmatian Auxilia to the remains of their skunk army .

lol na it doesnt, i liked alexander more, just because of the time period. I know there was less factions and the campaign map was abit rubbish, but i had more fun playing it than i did BI.

yeah but has too small map, bad units, almost no factions...

Both expansions are inferior to RTW.

But I prefer Alexander since it has an awesome selection of Macedonian units. Proper hypaspists, Agrianes, Thessalian cavalry, etc. I think it's sad that the designers were aware of these units, but chose to put them in an expansion (when they could've easily put them in the original).

Has to be BI, I uinstalled alexander in disgust shortly after i got it. BI battles seemed to be balanced better than RTW but the campaign was no where near is good, plus i did't find the period very interesting.
Agree with Barbarian Prince a few of the units from alexander should have been in rome from the start.

if somebody sits and reworks Alexander well,exchanging all persian idiotic units and adding some nice descriptions etc,it may become something exquisite .But it needs a lot .Practically only the macedonian units can be used and perhaps the map .

It would be great if it is put on big map, like Vanilla or Mundus Magnus and if some factions are added.

Chek mod forum, one guy's doinf some Alexander mod....

Lexander is nice but, once you beat it a few times it gets old. Try playing as the Persian Empire and see how quickly you go in the hole.

Now BI with the Sassanids is loads of fun.

BI no question about it. Alexander had no replayability and was just awful overall. A shame really.
