THE PUNIC WARS TOURNAMENT (Sunday, August 5)
First off, I'm a little annoyed because I had to retype this thread all over again due to a server glitch with this forum (which deleted everything that was posted yesterday). Some of you pre-registered yesterday. If you don't mind, could you register again (by filling out the questionnaire)?
In any case, I've set up a tourney based loosely on the Punic Wars. This will be a No Rules competition (just a disclaimer for anyone expecting historical accuracy).
I originally intended for this to be a Roman-vs-Roman tournament, but then I wanted to make it spicier by inviting Rome's historical nemesis, Carthage. After more thinking, I expanded the tourney selection to include not just Rome, but also Carthage and her allies (Spain, Gauls, Numidia). I excluded Macedon from the selection because they didn't play a direct role in this war.

In my opinion, Hannibal Barca was the most distinct character to emerge from the Punic Wars (which is why I invited Carthage in the first place). Thus, I picked a tourney map with Hannibal Barca in mind.

Hannibal was a huge proponent of the ambush (in any form). That said, he scored several fine victories by using thick terrain to mask his movements.
One such map allows players to be just as krafty whether you're Roman, Carthaginian or whatnot. The Prippet Marshes is full of trees (and ambush points), but there is some open ground available. Thus, the tournament will be the Prippet Marshes.

Just to clarify: there are only eight playable factions for this tourney.

- Spain
- Gauls
- Numidia

- all players will meet in the Competitive (server)
- there are 3 rooms on GameSpy: Chat Lobby, Competitive and Friendly. Meet in the Competitive server.
RULES FOR THE TOURNAMENT
1. Please pre-register by filling out this questionnaire:
- Your Tournament Name:
- Your Faction: (you can switch & choose between Rome, Carthage, Spain, Gaul and Numidia)
- Additional Comments:
2) All players must add the prefix “[TWC]” in front of their names. For example, I’m typically known as the Prince_of_Macedon. But on the day of the tourney, my name will be [TWC]Prince_of_Macedon. Since most of us don’t know each other, this will be the best way to identify you on the server.
3) all games will be 10k denarii (10,000 denarii)
4) all games will be fought on the Prippet Marshes map
5) do not change any of the battlefield conditions! The only thing you need to change is the map. And that map is the Prippet Marshes. Everything else should be default.
6) Do not restrict the movement of the camera
7) Unit Size should be "Large" unless someone's computer can't handle it.
8) the game is Rome: Total War (version 1.5)
9) this is a 1 vs 1 tournament
10) there are no in-game rules (you can spam units, make elephants, use artillery, etc)
11) After you finish your battle, please wait for me to assign you your next opponent
12) You can switch factions as you please (between the approved tourney factions)
13) After a battle, both players will report the results to me (I want to know who won, and which factions were used)
