    Icon8 Realistic Or Rushed Off?

What is up with the RTRPE units?
Yes this is a kind of a rant, but maybe it's a develper's choice... Anyway:

    1) Roman units are limted to almost none at first. Than comes the marian reforms, which takes out a hlaf of the already-little-amount-of units! No archers no cohorts no nothing! just a unit of heavy infantry, the same with an eagle, veliteis(sp?) and one horse unit! where are the pretorian guard? the archers? the REALISTIC UNITS?!

    2) Lack of siege equeipment. No onagers, the max is a balsita and a scorpion for the Roamns, but that seals it! don't tell me there was no Onagers!

    3) Lacking heavilly in different units. only Selucids and Rebels has the appropiate number of units.

I know some of you may tell me to **** off and play another mod, but I won't. I'm corrently waiting to be able to run MII:TW on normal settings. Meanwhile I play RTR because I remember it as the gratest game of all times. what happend?
I expected more form you, RTRPE modding team.

Hmmmm! It must be a long time since you played RTR, because, unless I am very much mistaken, the RTRPE 1.9 Roman order of battle is the same as that of RTR Gold, from which it was ported, and that's been around since early 2006!

I think the general idea is that Rome provides the legions, while light troops and cavalry are obtained locally in the particular theatre of war - I don't think it would be particularly realistic if you were able to recruit Syrian archers in northern Gaul or Gallic warbands from the slums of Alexandria - lol. If I want archers I usually send a family member with a bag of gold down to Crete to buy some (there's usually 4 units of Cretan archers available - if you time your visits right). In northern Italy there's a nice selection of Transalpine Gallic troops available in the settlements (Patavia, Bononia etc.) once you've built up to level 3 barracks. If you want exotics, do what the Romans did, ship 'em in.

The Praetorians and Imperial legionaries are completely unnecessary, as I don't think it's possible to get past the 67 BC CTD anyway. Mind you, the screeching women, head hurlers and incendiary pigs of vanilla did afford a certain level of amusement.

This thread really needs to get locked all points are moot.

    2 Points taken up here:
Why can't roman recruit archers/praetorians/other? Romans recruited legions... the rest were auxillaries (aka mercanaries) which funnily enough theres mercanaries in RTW.

The african elephants used are now extinct. Sub Saharan African elephants are far too big to use in battle.

If you guys are gonna point out historical accuracy at least look things up first. Where the hell did you learn that romans recruited archers?

We need to start counting how many people start these posts about "what happened to such and such" without reading the FAQ first....

It's not because it's in a computer game that it's right, look at the Egyptian faction in vanilla, and not every culture had archers. The Romans however did have archers, but these were NOT Roman citizens, they were mercenaries and provincials drafted into the army.
