Tell me what a great nation to start out with would be



One that can get rich, colonize, and get really advanced.


I dont need to invade everyone, but just to be a rich, advanced, colonial (optional) nation.

If you are wanting to learn how to play as a HRE state I recommend Mecklenburg as they start with the advantage of a CoT and with guidance can vassalise Brandenburg pretty quick. As HRE early game it is best to befriend Austria. They like sending armies everywhere.

I'm having a lot of fun as Castille. I was the second nation to start colonizing the world after England and it wasn't long before I owned the Americas. Once you create Spain and get all those other core provinces, I believe you can build up to a dozen ships at a time.

England is a pretty good nation to start off with. A strong fleet, colonies and a near impossible homeland to successfully invade.

The best nation to start is:

1. Castille. You can play either Muslim Butcher or American Butcher (I mean Colonist Master), and both can be a Trading Bastard (I mean Trading Master here). You also have an unification goal.

2. Portugal. Personally I do not really recommand it since Castille would occassionaly rape you after 1.3 patch. But if you remain neutral and have patience Portugal is a good nation to play.

3. Burgundy. Why?? Why choose those lazy-wine/art lovers?? Because Burgundy has a ridiculous strong army, a good economy and good position!! You can eat most German nations for breakfast, and when some super powers notice that (Austria and France) it is usually too late to stop you!!

4. Ming/Japan. If you want to pratice warfare, nothing is better than those two overpopulated nations - a lot of men can die for you on battlefield!!

5. Inca Empire. Lol, I know it may not be good for beginner, but if you know how to Westernization (go EUIII Wiki now) Inca Empire is unstoppable!! Hell, I have seen AI successfully Westernization before and Crusade Europe!!!

The only problem is that Castille actually wants to rape you.

I suggest allied with England, France or Aragon first, but desert them if them got into war (unless their opponent is some tiny nation, then you may want to join if it is a defensive war).

Mecklenburg is a great starting nation. I played my first game with it.

You can survive as Portugal if you ally early on with Castille.

Sure, in some years they'll be all like... "ooh, we're not friends with you anymore, rich Portugese GIRLY BOYS!"

But then you'll be all like... "Well, want some money?"

And later; "Hey, my Castillian best friends! Take some money! How about an alliance?"
