    Default A question about Diplomacy

Ok, my recent strategy has been to get alliances with the allies of future enemies. For example: Gaul is allied with Greece and Illyria. If I felt that war with Gaul, just to use an example, was on the horizon I'd send diplomats to gain alliances with Greece/Illyria...If/when Gaul did something...shady...like cross the border I'd immediately attack them. This would cause Illyria/Greece to break their alliances with Gaul...

That's all well and good and interesting...but what is the practical result?

Does anyone know how the AI handles this? Does it cost them economically? Does trade cease when alliances are broken?

What I have noticed is that nothing stays constant. Recently in the matter of 1 year(4 turns) I think Thrace was a under the proctertorship of both Macedonia and Germania at points.

Never expect anything good from diplomacy in Rome. It should just break up the fact that they are "friends" I suppose but it doesn't do much.

This diplomacy in this game is messed up. The AI can make good deals one time but be ridiculous in another.

Trade doesn't cease when alliances is broken, and therefor it doesn't cost them economically. The computer often makes and breakes alliances, but they never make an alliance with a possible enemy. This can change if you move garrison or expand towards them, but otherwise the situation remains the same (one exception is the romans, never trust them!).

You should make alliances with those factions who are not expanding in your way. If they do then you know that they'll attack you. I play as Thrace and hold around 40 provinces including Roma. All factions that border me are at alliance with me for 50-60 years and kno if they break it that it will be their doom!!!!!!!!

If you send a diplomat every 5 turns to speak with ally it will most likely not break agreement
