Default TWC WIKI: Rome Total War

For anyone who hasn't noticed TWC has a Wiki here.

The Portal to the Rome Total War information is here

We have articles already well in progress on Rome: Total War and Expansions and Rome Total War specifically.
A category for RTW factions Rome: Total War Factions lots of the faction pages have recently been updated, mainly by the guys posting in this thread (LeonidasOfSparta has done tons of work on these, Lord Romanus III also deserves a special mention for some very nice work on Parthia.)
    Updated factions include:
    Julii
    Carthage
    Parthia
    Gaul
    Germania
    Greek Cities
    Armenia
    Spain
    Thrace
    Rebels

There are pages for the other games at: Barbarian Invasion and Alexander

We'd like to encourage those of you in here who clearly enjoy writing about Total War to contribute to the Wiki. Editing it is slightly different than making a reply here but not any more difficult than that. See on forum help here or follow the links to help on the wiki.

When you do add your article, or even just expand on an existing one, please post a link here to tell us about it, so people can view new contributions (and so Wiki editor can rep you). I'll try and keep this post updated with links to recent additional articles as well.

    ********
Small Print Section: It is not essential but please make your self a user log-on for the Wiki, it only needs name and password, you can edit without one but you leave a trail of your IP address all over Wiki - which is not really advisable if you later post saying you wrote xxxx !

Please do not submit anything you didn't write yourself, unless you have specific permission, please be aware that your work is likely to be edited by others as the wiki develops.

I am lost... how do I help the Wiki, what is it, and what sacrifices must be made for the Wiki to bless my people?

    Cordially, Lord Romanus III

Hi Lord Romanus III, the Wiki is an evolving reference for all things Total War which depends entirely on the contributions of individual users such as yourself, no sacrifices or ritual slaughter are required.... You should actually find editing the wiki is rather fun.

Having had a brief look at your previous posts I noticed you discussing upkeep of units in M2, there is a similar thread requesting help on M2 information here. You might like to have a look at the Settlements in M2 page that links to and see if what that says currently about upkeep is correct or if it could be explained better. I also noticed you seem to have been discussing battle tactics and formations etc. I don't think we have any general articles about that yet so that would be something useful to make a start on.

Existing articles are easy to change just hit the edit button as you would to edit your own post here and use the preview button to see what changes look like before saving. To start a whole new page you just type in Url of what you want its name to be, eg:
    http://www.twcenter.net/wiki/Battle_Map_Tactics_-_RTW
or something that's descriptive of what you are adding and when browser takes you to not yet existent page you get option to edit it into being.

Don't worry too much about accidentally messing anything up. The history of all changes made is stored with the article so anything that goes wrong can be changed back or fixed by another user, page names can also be changed later if required.

LeonidasOfSparta, have a look at what is already there and first see if you notice anything that needs correcting or explaining better, feel free to edit pages if you do.

As both of you who answered so far seem to be interested in battle play in some way I have set up start of page at:
    http://www.twcenter.net/wiki/Battle_Map_Play_-_RTW
partly to demonstrate how you can start a page with comparatively little information for others to contribute more to later. I think there could be areas on that page that both of you might like to add information to.

As a side note the wiki shouldn't be written just from one persons point of view - so avoid saying "my tactics are", instead you can say "a possible tactic for... is..." then everyone can add their contributions to same page without conflict.

I've updated the first post in thread to list some of the now updated faction articles, great work guys, its lovely to see this progressing so well
Special thanks and rep must go to Leonidas who's done the Lions share - ouch! bad pun

In a fit of organisation I've put the faction pages that haven't got much information on yet into the Stubs category, see:
    http://www.twcenter.net/wiki/Category:Stubs
which also includes Barbarian Invasion factions now as well, in-case we can get any other volunteers that know a lot about BI to join in as well ...
for BI factions specifically, follow the links from:
    http://www.twcenter.net/wiki/Factions_in_BI

The pages in the stubs section have suggested section titles on so-far and that is all. If anyone wants to add more sections or change the titles if they have better ideas, that's fine.

I'm going to ask in the history forum as well and see if any of our historians can contribute some more in depth stuff about the real world settings for the factions. I think we can make this a really good resource with a bit of collaboration....

thanks again for all the input,
    Mak.
