I liked it. I especially liked the soundtrack.
Gotta love that theme song.
One of the Best Civil War movies out there.
“The nation that will insist upon drawing a broad line of demarcation between the fighting man and the thinking man is liable to find its fighting done by fools and its thinking by cowards.”

damn right i liked the pariot and gang of new york this where better , i have always had an intrest in the US civil war and the sound track is great.
Pity there's no blood. It's kind of foolish to see thousands of soldiers advancing into a hellstorm of artillery fire and just slumping over like in a crappy old black and white cowboy movie. Other than that it's great, though.
Cluny the Scourge's online Rome: Total War voice-commentated battle videos can be found here: http://uk.youtube.com/profile?user=C...e1&view=videos - View on High Quality only.
Cluny will roast you on a spit in your own juice...
man it where like suicide, is it true that GettysBurg is a preserved site.
Yep, the battlefield is maintained by the National Park Service, you can visit it free of charge. They have markers where units stood, which explain the significance of that part of the battlefield, and have daily renenactments of parts of the battle.

If anyone is intrested i can recommend a book on GettysBurg

You don't have to take a guided tour, I never did. You can drive along the road and stop by the places you want to see. If you already know what happened in the battle this can be fun as it allows you to visually and physically see and touch where the events happened. Much better than just reading about it.
If your interested in the US Civil War, Antietam and Fredricksburg are also well-preserved:

I liked the book and I like the movie even more, just take a look at my signature.
The lack of blood can be annoying from time to time. I want to see the "cloud of red mist" when double canister hits the advancing troops.
There was a really good thread some where, where some was posting a play by play of the Gettysberg battle. I also love this movie and have been to the battlefield many times and it amazes that people faught the way they did.
As for the lack of blood, as mentioned about, I can give a no-prize answer, which is, all the wool the soldier wore tended to keep bullet wounds from being that graphically gorey.
The real answer regarding the movie is, the production put out a call for reinacters to come and be in the movie. To the productions surprise, thousands showed up and were basically firing blanks. The art department could never have made up everyone. So, you get a fairly bloodless battle. But, as I said above, other then people being hit by artillary, you wouldn't see blood flying every where anyway.

A good film.
Miles better then the horrible sequel(or prequel I guess) that came after.
Apparently I'm the only person on Earth who didn't find that movie a boring disappointment. I read Michael Shaara's Killer Angels (which the movie was based off of) and enjoyed it, but the movie had some bad acting, unexplained errors and the like, etc.
Gods and Generals was hard to wacth compared to Gettysberg. Just too many people preaching and praying and talking to god for my taste.

I don´t think so, the Gods and Generals was a financial failiure.I wonder if Ted Turner is going to do any more Civil War films.
Both were good movies. They were based on the books by Michael Shaara
and his son Jeff. They both write good historical fiction novels about the American Revolution, Civil War, WWI, and WWII.
I liked Gettysburg, as well as Gods and Generals.
