Default Convince me to download this

currently i have RTR, it is the best mod for its time period, and this mod is probably the best for its period also, but RTR doesnt work with BI installed over it, but recently i have been interested in the late roman era, so i want to know more about this mod,
are there any faction previews and units i could see?
also, i am concerned about CTD's, there seem to be many CTD threads in this forum?

    thanks,
    asd

erm, I've had maybe one or two CTD's in two or so months of gameplay. Better than any other mod out there imo.

If you want screenshots, I have a bunch posted in my WRE AAR in the AAR sub-forum.

If you're interested in late-Roman era, this is the definitive mod. The units are so accurate and detailed as opposed to vanilla it's insane; and the team keeps adding to it! It's phenominal. I have both Roma Surrectum and IBFD on my machine. you don't have to un install RTR, either; all you have to do is copy the RTW folder you have installed RTR into, then uninstall the original game, reinstall (unless RTR has an uninstall option, in which case copy the folder and then just uninstall RTR), and download IBFD.

I PROMISE you, if you're interested in the Late Roman era, you will not regret it!
Yes, I hate the fact RTW is out and I still have a Japanese title. Come on now admins- let's get with the program.

Well, playing as WRE is no cake walk. I haven't disbanded any units because you start with a Gothic horde that's getting ready to snuggle up close to mainland Italy. The begining cash I spent was to fortify Rome, and the two settlements in Spain... and that's it. Now I'm bankrupt and one of my legions had it's first engagement with the Gothic hordes besieging Rome, and ended up sending 3 horder armies away retreating... It was all luck because the two hordes didn't arrive in time. And now the 4 legions I have collected from the areas I could are closing in around the horde in hopes of removing the biggest threat to my empire...

And then I plan on shipping them out to Spain! The Roman Constantii's will face my wrath after I have Spain and am able to get out of debt.

If you want a challenge for a game, get this... I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it... Although months of playing SPQR has made me into a fine commander, but I still find some of the battles impossible here.

Be careful with your economy, it's possible to get into HUGE debt as the WRE, which could take years to dig out of. Disbanding some troops makes a lot of sense. You have to use your resources very carefuly, it's a really tough campaign.

That it is; in my WRE campaign I was forced to Abandon Africa altogether, destroy all the buildings there (both for money and so that the facilities to fight me wouldn't fall into the hands of vandals and berbers), consolidate my forces in one place at a time, and deal with threats as they came. For a while until my economy stabled out I didn't even train new units, just spent what I had to to retrain existing ones. But lemme tell you, its a FUN CAMPAIGN!!!

My current campaign as the WRE is just amazingly awesome. Dealing with the Vandals...errr vandalizing Iberia, the Goths sacking Rome and rampaging around northern Italy, Carthage barely holding back the berbers, the Burgundi Swarming through the Alps, civil war in Gaul, and tensions high with almost everyone else, things get fun. No time to disband troops, especially as I was dead set on holding my borders to the very end. The economy being cut out from under me doesn't help much either. If you want an exercise in frustration, this is a definate must.

Anywho, I am currently stablized and in control of the great majority of those territories, but new enemies are just coming out of the woodwork. Never a dull moment.

I'm playing WRE on VH/VH and having a blast. I destroyed the Visigoths within the first two years, destroyed all of the vandal armies and left them with one settlement in Northwestern Spain within the first ten, destroyed Imperium Constantini within 10 as well (really enjoyed it too. The battles felt decisive somehow. Only three proper battles anyway. One against Constantine, one against his son, and one against whoever took up the reigns of faction leader afterwards. All with Constantius Flavius naturally. All the rest were just 1 turn sieges against 2-3 unit garrisons)
Now I'm allied with the Huns, trying to take a few of the western Balkan provinces (as I think Stilicho tried to do historically. Couple of years late, but the thought's there)
I think I might just try and reclaim my proper borders and try and hold them this game rather than blitz the German factions. Might be interesting to see how they end up doing.
