    Default Suggestions for website software

I am helping some friends set up a new company and one of the core things it will need will be a website (in fact, that will pretty much be the only way customers will interact with the company).

A simple way of thinking of the company is that of a dating agency, but for skills rather than lurv......

The site will need to be able to:

    • Manage Members
      • Enroll new members (take name, address, email, company details, credit card details)
      • Capture member skillsets (ie. members select from a pre-defined list of skills and set what level they have of that skill)
      • Charge the members for the services used (probably a flat monthly fee)
      • Allow members to update details
      • Allow members to resign from membership
    • Provide Searches
      • Members can search for other members based on location and/or skill set (again using pre-defined skillsets)
    • Allow contact between members
      • If a member does a search and finds suitable candidates they have the option to send a message to the candidates explaining what they want to contact them about.
      • Only if the candidates agree would the searcher be given their true contact details.

The site would expect to have about 30,000 members and would need decent security.

Basically, does anyone know of any off-the shelf packages that would be able to do this?
: - It's my smilie and I'll use it if I want to......

What you’re asking for is quite specialist, most dating websites will have a teams of web developers designing what you’re asking for. You may want to talk to an experienced web developer. I suggest you speak to this guy , I’ve worked with him before and he one of the most talented web designers I know.

As for takeing payments speak to this company, they will charge an extra couple of % on top of what your friends banks will charge but you will need secure payments other wise the bank won’t allow you to use there services.

There's an ecommerce solution that might be capable of doing most of that with a little creativity. If not then there are a number of developers dedicated to adding on to the core code for various functions.

The cart package is ECT, and if you post in the Getting Started Presales sections of the forum they can tell you what exactly the package can and can't do. There's 3 staff that run the cart solution and one is the full time coder, the other is the designer, and the last is the main forum moderator. The package is run from a database, has an online admin where you can edit everything and is a snap to work with even if you don't know anything about web code.

I have worked with the cart a fair bit but not enough to tell whether everything you need there could be done with it out of the box.
