    Default Installation question

I have gotten to the dos install screen, it installed for a few minutes and then stopped. It reads: C:\The Creative Assembly\ Rome- Total War>XCOPY .\ci .\bi\ci /e
Does ci specify a file name or directory name on the target
    (F=file D=Directory)?

    What do I type F or D?

    thanks.

Ok, I've gotten it installed but now an error message pops up at the first screen and then crashes back to windows. Whats my problem folks? I posted a screen shot of the error below.

Are you 100% sure yave you patched your BI to BI 1.6 before attempting to install TNS??

The error is not in the file but must be in the installation. I have not seen it before. The dos window should not prompt you for the D.

Did you have a previous installation of FATW installed and, if so, did you delete the ci folder before installation?

Actually I did have a previous (but failed) installation of FATW and I didnt remove it prior to re-installing. So I have to uninstall BI and just do everything over again?

    Thanks. You chaps are clever

The New Shadow assumes that no previous installation exists. It should not be necessary to reinstall rtw/bi (unless you did something really wrong!) but it should suffice to delete any folders created by a previous version of FATW (failed or not). If you go into the Rome directory and delete the "fe" folder (if it exists) and then go into the bi folder (in the rtw directory) and delete the ci folder (as per the installation instructions for TNS).

Let us know how what happens when you run the tns 2.0 exe again and then try to play. Thx.

Is this the proper directory to install the mod into? I have the Gold edition

    C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War

    That should be correct, yes.

I have done everything correctly and I still have to type D or F at the DOS loading screen.

    :\The Creative Assembly\ Rome- Total War>XCOPY .\ci .\bi\ci /e
Does ci specify a file name or directory name on the target
    (F=file D=Directory)?

    F or D?

Well, ci is not a file, so I would assume D is correct. Did you delete the "ci" (and "fe" if there was one) folder before installing?

Yes, I removed BI entirely and reinstalled the mod. You will love this. Now when I click "The New Shadow" Icon on my desktop It loads Vanilla Rome (with no campaigns). Oy vey.

That's what your target line reads?

    Code:
    "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -nm -show_err -mod:bi\ci
With a different path of course, depending on where you installed the game on your machine...

I had this error, I had just renamed my ci folder, (makes no difference) but then as I couldn't get it to work, I copied the new TNS files over, save event_images, and it worked, amazingly enough.

Do I have to install the Forth Eorlingas mod before I install the New Shadow?

The instructions clearly say that TNS assumes no previous FATW versions are present. Are you sure you have followed the instruction correctly? Such comments as these suggest you may wish to read the instructions more carefully.

Yes, I have read the instuctions numerous times and installed and reinstalled the mod numerous times but I get the same error message. I am new to the Fourth age mods and wanted to double check every possible problem that could arrise. Actually I have been trying to get this to work on my old PC. To be honest 99% of the mods I have tried to run on my old computer don't work. My computer is just old. However, later on I will try to install the mod on my new PC (which always allows the mods to work). I blame my old PC. I don't think it's your mod that is flawed.

Great to hear it, do not forget to install 2.1 and 2.2 as they fix critical elements.

If you followed the same procedure then I can only surmise it was related to your DOS being outdated.
