Two things, can't find dvd and ctd's

Ok, I do not know how to best describe my problem but I'll try. I tried to install MTW2 on my primary machine, sounds simple right?

Well, after a successful install I tried to run the game. 'Please insert correct disc...'. Installed patch 1.1, same thing. Upgraded to 1.2, same thing. Installed again and upgraded directly to 1.2 and same thing. No matter how I try they never find my discs, and I tried both disc 1 and disc 2.

I have upgraded all drivers, bios and dvd firmware. So there is no problem there. I am at a loss here people, please help. Problem 1.

So I wanted to find out if the install was corrupt somehow, and a friend directed me to a website and I got an image that when use with Daemon Tools would behave like an original disc. Ok, so I install Daemon Tools and get this image, lo and behold it works. The game starts, and Vanilla MTW2 plays perfectly. So I wonder if my dvd's has problems? Why would this image work, and not my original dvds?

Ok, so I'm thinking I'll just use this and forget that there ever was a problem. So I install my mods, that I use, and as soon as MTW2 smell a mod it CTDs me when I tries to start a new game with the infamous Unspecified Error. And I just can't play Vanilla, after playing mods it's no going back. I never had any of this before when playing v1.0 or v1.1. Problem 2.


Decided to clean my machine, and re-install XP and Vista. Dual-boot. So I've been at it since this morning. I have a clean install of XP Pro SP2 and Vista Ultimate. Re-installed the game again, and still these problems persists. I use this machine for many games, and it has never presented any problems like this before. And even without and then with Daemon Tools, the original discs won't do anything but install the game only.

Thankfully I always make a Start-save of all factions when I am ready with a new mod so I can go back and play should there be any problems like this, but I need to know why I never can start a new modified game no more too.

I need some tea. If anyone have some insights, pretty please with sugar on top let me know.

When exactly is the CTD occurring, and with which mods?

Are those mods upgraded for 1.2?

Regions and provinces, and when I select faction and try to start a new game. All is updated. And it worked before, on another machine. Just not my main one.

Ok, I am totally at a loss here now. I have tried anything I possibly can imagine to make any mods work. Only thing I can think of is that since I have to use the maxi-image to even get the game to start, that it can be it. If it had read my original discs it would have been fine.

So then we are back to problem 1, why does it ask for the original discs when I have them? gaaaah
