    Sorry iam getting CTD..s from your mod... as well i dont know if its other problem.. iwa s playing campain game. 1.2 patch installed. and Byz spearman mod installed.. i was in a battle against HRE, and it crashed when general their died, i tryed 2 times. it happen CTDed at different time.. please help, i really like your unit, and i really want to play the game. SS4.0 has too much errors and CTDs.. for byz empire.. so i dont even considering touching it anymore, unless they make a new patch. but i would still rather play your byztin mod.

    The tga.dds missing stuff happened to me sometimes (i think it was the unofficial patch) but i could play nonetheless, no ctd from that. I experienced ctds in certain points of the game (randomly, but if i saved the game just before that turn, it ctd ed every time) with or without mods.
    Did the ctd occur in just one point of the game or in several different occasions?

    The modeldb installing thing...
    1. Add the data provided by Trajan to the end of the modeldb (be careful though, do not add or remove spaces from the ends of lines),
    2. Increase YOUR number with 2 (the 801 number is ss4 modeldb specific!, remember the default game has 701). Look at YOUR modeldb's first line and increase the number with 2 (e.g. if u use the unmodded vanilla game, you should have 701+2=703).

    LAca, in case you missed it, um , would you consider making another unit with the same textures? just with pure curved sword? It'll be nice if there is a different name for that unit, because i'll be able to add both spearman and it in,

    hey LOca... iam currently using the 2 handed shiled one.. i like that one better.. but can you make sure it works for campain.. i really dont know whats wrong with it.. iam at home instead of being in tafe.. trying to fix it up ... well if your there give me a reply

    its inside the export_Deser_building - but isent that enough for it to work. it seems in the game.. it has a blank sport.. mmm let me remind you i chucked your mod into vallia folder.. and using MD2 icon to load the game, instead of the original icon.. which roads the game in a sub window.... instead of teh full window.. for some reason... when i did that... that is.. but i dont think that should effect anything,. beside it replaces the oringal files of the game. but could it be something to do with the .. icon picture>?

    and one more r equest.. could you resin a musketeer for Byzantium.. its just so unfair.. we dont Byzantium players play such an unrelistic war, and try to provent an downfull of the empire, yet CA thinks .. Byzantium people aint smart enough to accually realise the world is changing and they needed guns... ???

    sorry i made this into another post.. because this is what happens after i installed your one handed spearman...
    i open up building browser... in campaine....
    i went down to the milita Barracks for huge city, and large city.. all i can see is it enables traning for varangian guard.
    Byztine infantry
    Archer mIlita
    Spear milita
    Town milita..
    and barack plus Amory i see Dismounted latinkon... Dismounded Byzantine lancers, Byzantine Spearman, and speasants... i dont see it in the requirtment tree. is it .. suppose to be there?. or is it just buildable.. when when is it buildable.. becaues the last game.. i hard a large city "constantinople" i could build varangian guards.. i build 2.. just incase they happen to be your spear mans.. i went into a quick battle with rebles.. yet their still varangian guards... i still havnt solve the problem. iam going to try reinstalling the whole game. and have a look..

    are you using another mod? if you are, you gotta edit the descr_building yourself, press ctrl + f, type in whatever building you want, say, "garrison", then you have garrison quarter there, and add this line

    Hey mike... ive been siting here waiting for a reply lOL.. thanks for th at. . very appriciate it... well iam not using any other mod. i did not change any thing from its oringal files that loca's made, all i did was copy and past it into the orignal game files,, .. ok
    first of all.. where do i type garrison?,... just give me any specific building.. i would l ike to put it into a city barrack.. maybe reasonable with armORy...what do i type.. iam new to this. but i would love to learn ..and thanks again.. PM me if you could

    So u are using my model, but added it to the vanilla game without the mod switch. In this case, u need to copy the following 4 folders to the game/data folder (from the mod's data folder):

    text
    ui
    unit_models
    unit_sprites

    and the following files:

    export_descr_buildings.txt
    export_descr_unit.txt

    - and of course the battle_models.modeldb file and its entries in the unit_models folder

    You dont need the rest of the files from the mod folder this way.
    What you DO need, is the export_descr_unit.txt and export_descr_buildings.txt files and the correct entries in those files.
    VERY IMPORTANT - YOU MUST ADD TO THE MEDIEVAL 2'S SHORTCUT THE "--io.file.first" command line switch!!! Otherwise it will not work.



    So, 3 steps:

    1. files in right places
    2. edu and export_descr_buildings.txt, battle_model.modeldb correct entries
    3. command line switch (--io.file.first)

    If u have that error report, i am 100 % sure the problem is with the battle_models.modeldb file.
    Just take a look at the first line before u add the unit section, then add your sections and increase that number with 2. Its that simple (it doesnt matter what mod u are using, if u do this, it WILL WORK).
    Do not mix ug levels or anything with other units, it will just make things more complicated.
    So, take your modeldb u want to modify and make the changes as said. If u done it right, it will work. Make sure you copy paste the sections without losing or inserting ANY characters (it will ctd for sure if this happens, the modeldb formatting is very strict).

    I am 100% positive you missed something minor when adding the data to the . modeldb.
    Be very careful , missing one space from the end of a line WILL mess everything up. Do not add blank lines (1 enter is enough) at the end of the file cause it will ctd the game aswell. Do some research on the modeldb structure before working with it.
    Bottom line is be very careful. I myself had some of ctds because i missed a double space at the end of a line. So, if it doesnt work from the first try, do it all over again. And copy pasting from the posts here might not be as accurate as it should. Copy paste sections only in notepad from one modeldb to another.

    to be honest i dont get this mod
    i installed this "mod", but when im ingame
    those "spearman" arent even spearman
    they LOOK like "spearman" but dont fight with theyr spears
    when an enemy unit approaches, they switch to theyr swords
    i dont know if this is supposed to happen, but if it is than they aint spearman at all, theyr just a weak swordsman unit?

    That's because sword and spear are both short range melee weapon. The engine has some difficulty to distinguish them. To solve this, I myself add the "long_pike" attribute to this unit(I cannot remember exactly the attribute name. Check noble_pikemen anyway). Then the engine will recognize their spear as a long range melee weapon and switch to sword only in short range.

    @LAca

    Superb unit!

    The idea with the schildtron is a just bit strange... actually Byzantine heavy infantry (skoutatoi or hoplitai) fought as pikeman performing similar to western pikeman centuries later but carried shields that were fixed to the left arm.
    I think it'd be far better if you gave them phalanx-ability insteed! Than the pike and sword technics would properly work, too! There might be just some difficulties if you fix the shield to the arm...

    Again great looking skins and models!

    im curious to how the one handed version performs compared to the two has anyone tested this yet i play stainless steel, n im trying to change the unit to either one or two hand don't really kno which would be a more effective unit

    For me the two-handed version seemed to fight better....but that may be coincidence.

    The unit description says they're versatile infantry, but they suffer from the inbuilt game mechanic which say 'spearmen lose to sword infantry' (sword infantry get a bonus, or spear infantry get a penalty - i can't remember which), so despite the high stats they are only really effective against cavalry.

    Still, very nice unit!
