sorry i didnt make a save, however i can tell you how this happened.

first we were allied, but crusade occured in jeruselam against their more profitable ally, so venice(me) and the byzantines went to war because they dont like me questioning their sexuality.

one turn of no aggressions, i was moving my 2 stacks around into position to take thessalonica and push on to adrianipole to cut them off from the greek southern mainland which had 1 unit in each of the 2 citys down there.
their faction heir was set to intercept my kings army before it reached thessalonica, with another full stack arriving by ship right behind the prince.

next round, during the AI's turn, the prince and his full stack of missle cavalry reinforcements were 2 squares away from laying seige to Ohrid, my new main castle for the empire, with my king suitibly close to either intercept the seige or continue to thessalonica, and the diplomacy scroll came up.

byzantines say "all your base are belong to us"
so i turn around and say, no , all your base should belong to me.

they counter my offer with a wealthy compromise, we both become each others vassel.
i rejected because i want venice to control the entire aegean sea

and so i chose not to save because i figured this was a common thing to have occured, seeing as the action i took is pretty standard response to AI demanding protectorate.
