Since 214 BC Legio VI has been lead by Henerius Macro called by some "The Orator". He is a competent General, Achieving a Major Triumph in 198 BC, Legio VI became Roma's most renowned legion, excelling in the Scillian wars, where it eradicated Charthage from the area, and became the "shock legion" used for assaulting while the other legions followed it.
It took Corinth on it's own and held southern Greece against a army of Athenians and Spartans.
However he knows he will never rise above a general, he is the son of a pleb, and despite rising through the ranks he knows that the power does not lie with him.
Vibius Julius, a great General is who Rome will follow, the senators adore him and the people hold him in almost as much esteem as they hold Henerius, for Vibius is not called "The Brave" for nothing.
He lead a ofencive campian against the gauls and raise two legions in cicialpine gaul, who are lead by men loyal to him.
He then left the north for greater glory, he laid seige to sparta untill it sued for peace, and then he took sparta itself, using his loyal fith legion and one green one, he took the city for Roma.
Then he marched up theAdriatic coast, defeating Greeks in battle and deciding the next target, even as his term as consul drew to a close.
His father is the head of the senate, and is manovering to have him elected consul for a second year.
When, in 195 BC the senate agreed to this, even as Vibius was commanding in Eperius, Hennerius knew that his time had passed.
Vibius did not apreciate the VI legion and its support amoung the people, Hennerius had large popular following, even if he didn't have any senatorial support, the mob were getting restless, and even there support in him began to fall when it was lernt the methoods he had taken to keep the sixth legion hidden.
He had them on garrison duty in Greece for years, then assigned them to wait out side the city "Gaurding it from any Greek influence".
Hennerius had confronted the Partician General about this, and was rudely dismissed.
OOnce Vibius had the people and senate on his side, hew could do what he wished with Hennerius.
So "The Orator" made such a speech, he denonced the ways of Rome, how the plebs were treated, and the flaunting of the laws for Vibius.
Layalty amoung the troops wavered, the Plebs grew anxious, and Hennerius then took the final gamble. He declared Vibius as a enemy of Rome and the people, who must he destroyed, he took the sixth legion, who had destroyed 92,000 enemies of rome, to Vibius's fifth legion, who had destroyed, 73,000 enemies of rome, and outside Naupactus, the two legion, the best in rome, went against eachother.
It was certain that in that day, most of the best blood of rome would soak the feilds of Aetolia.
