Default How to change my IP address.

Hello, some websites are really messing my Pc and the "help" menu warns me that I consider changing the Ip using a proxy thing or something. The thing is that I have no idea what the hell that is and don't have a clue on what to do. S.o.S. Please.

    Thanks.

Your IP address is determined by your ISP and cannot be changed to one of your choice.

If you're on a plan with a dynamic IP, your address can be reset by restarting your modem.

What exactly is your problem, though? I doubt IP address problems are the cause...

What "help" thing said you should use a proxy? It's probably not a good idea, overall.

Thats what happen when you visit sites labeled 'unsuitable for children' my friend.

    Lol, just kidding.

Anyway have you tried any anti-virus and anti-spyware programs?

Use K-Mac .... You can change your IP Address with that program.

You can download it from here:

note: It doesn't change your MAC-address, only your ISP can do that. It only changes your IP address if you don't have an ISP-assigned static IP Address.

MAC address != IP address; your ISP has nothing to do with it (and nor is it displayed to the internet).

You sure that's the program you intended to link to?

You have that backwards. You and only you can change your MAC address, whereas your ISP and only your ISP can change your IP address (barring proxies, which are generally not advisable to use for general Internet surfing if you don't have some idea what you're doing).

I think the bigger problem is that site are messing up your PC. What type of sites? Hold on - don't answer that actually...
I say run virus scans, spyware scans and then get a firewall, sites really should not be messing with your PC.

a proxy server can be set up to allow you to the access internet

you request a certain page or basically anything from the server and the server fetches them for you

i think he is talking about the possiblity of configuring proxy servers in a way to hide or mask user's Ip adress

Firefox to lets you use web proxies, they mask your IP address with another one by directing stuff through a proxy server, they're okay for general "I don't want people to see my real IP" stuff, although if someone (like the government, police, mossad) really want to find out, It's not really hard for them to find out your real IP.

If you use a so-called "super-elite" proxy that doesn't send XFF headers or keep logs of proxy use, there's not really any way short of intercepting and recording all traffic in and out of the server. Probably possible with cooperation from the corporate maintainers of the Internet's infrastructure, but not ever done that I've heard of. Many proxies aren't nearly so private, though, with X-Forwarded-For headers that allow anyone receiving a request to determine the real IP.

Anyway, as I said, it's not advisable to use proxies for casual surfing unless you have some idea what you're doing. They can substantially slow down your Internet access, and if you just use a computer that someone portscanned and found to be open, it's probably illegal. They're also not necessarily very anonymous anyway.

Be interested to know what you mean here.

Short of Tor, I can't think of any program with the ability to mask the IP attached to your outgoing requests...

Web-proxies slow down your internet horribly.
