    Default Why use SPQR

No, it's not a thread against SPQR.

I just dont really know what kind of features SPQR offers.
I've been playing RTR for a week now and want to know what's different in SPQR.

What I don't like at RTR are the still short battles.
The FAQs say that that's improved in SPQR, but is it, well, realistic? I mean, are they longer because it needs 15 hits with a 20 feet long spear to kill a Roman?

battles in SPQR can last up until 2 hours, and no less than 45 minutes with full stacks.

And realistic, just longer, so you have time to manover, and routs don't happen quickly.

Why not? SPQR battles are much more reallistic and harder to fight than RTR imho... You need to play with Huge settings to get the best results... Magnificient, epic like battles unfold every turn and you can spend anything from 30 minutes to 2 hours fighting both field and siege battles

Roman lines can withstand AI charges longer but if you don't use reallistic tactics you can get easily beaten... AI armies commonly outnumber your legions 2/3 to one and their units are normally veteran units which give them the edge in long battles Furthermore the AI general normally lasts longer and they try to outflank engaged lines every time

They'll constantly beat your general unit if you letit fight there general one on one, your cavarly are pretty weak, but balanced legions can destroy most enemies, if not heavly out numbered, my best legion was on border patrol against the Gauls and it keep getting attacked, it was depleted then attacked by 2 full stacks, they beat one stack soundly, but the second kept routing and reforming, my only cavarly wwas 4 bodygaurds who I could risk, so I withdrew.
