    Default Most Unexpected General Deaths

Hello, dear forumites. Share here your most unexpected and unusual General deaths; they might be critical battle situations when your general dies, or friendly fire that might have killed your general once. Or even when you're winning, but then your general somehow falls from his horse and there you go.

I was inspired by two peculiar situations that happened just now. First it was in a Custom Battle with the Greeks when I couldn't stop my overly impetuous archers in time. Result: my general died due to a flaming arrow. Luckily the battle was almost won, so no great problems later.

Another situation came just in the next Custom Battle. This time I made a phalanx box and put my general with a few missile units inside, against a much larger army of Gauls (just because I enjoy heroic victories). The Gaul general was badly beaten because of his stupid and fruitless charges against my pike wall, so he stopped to rest. After shooting a few arrows on him, my archers ran out of ammo and meanwhile the Gaul general was moving quickly to avoid being caught by missile fire. But then, immediately after he stopped again I killed him with a ballista, never doing this before with an enemy general. It looks like siege weapons are more effective than I thought.
"Romans not only easily conquered those who fought by cutting, but mocked them too. For the cut, even delivered with force, frequently does not kill, when the vital parts are protected by equipment and bone. On the contrary, a point brought to bear is fatal at two inches; for it is necessary that whatever vital parts it penetrates, it is immersed. Next, when a cut is delivered, the right arm and flank are exposed. However, the point is delivered with the cover of the body and wounds the enemy before he sees it."

Hahaha...imagine what it would be like to be the archer that shot his own general...Back to subject though, I was once besieging a Carthagenian city, and I was shooting my onagers at his troops inside. His general wasn't that close to the soldiers I was shooting at, but one stray missile randomly hit the general...

    I have several:

    My own generals:

    - Not one, not two, but THREE of my generals got killed at sea by storms when I tried to cross over to Northern Africa from Sicily.

    - A lone javelin from a few enemy peltast kills my Seleucid general.

    - My Gaul Chieftan dies after charging through his own spear warbands. Didn't get killed by the other units nor by missiles as soon as he charged in front he was down. And no he was not sick but in pretty good health.

    - An artillery shot kills my Chariot general while I'm preparing to engage.

    - My Roman general was killed by a falling elephant when he was battling in Carthage.

    Enemy Generals:

    - A Roman general was killed by boiling oil.

    - A Pontus general was killed by his running amok scythed chariots.

I was assaulting an unfortified village with my Britons. My warbands already closed down all streets to the central town square, and my missile troops were pounding the last enemy units in there (one unit of peasants and one depleted unit of spearmen-something). It was no battle, it was a cakewalk, a massacre, kind of a joke. I decided to rush in my two chariot units (bodyguards of my King and his Heir) to finish the enemy off, earn some exp and of course just to shorten the battle because it was so annoying.

In the very moment my chariots touched the enemy peasants, I got the message that my faction leader died bravely fighting in battle

I was once besieging a city of Carthage.I have deployed my forces and battle begun. I have killed most of them and they started to rout.I didn't had cavalry so I sent general after the routing army.He cutted many of them and when comed to the walls one of my cavalryman passed through the gate.Message 'gate captured' didn't occur. When I looked closely that one soldier was my general!! The whole army came to the center of city and were once again ready for fight. My general was inside waiting his own death. There was nothing what I could do so he died. What a shame, he was very good general.

I forgot about mine and left him on a hill, to discover that some cavalry had got him. Curses.

That happed to me once, but the AI was to stupid to kill my general, so I had my lonely general near several enemy units looking at him, very amazing.

One time my onagers killed the enemy general, they were breaching the walls and one of the onagers missed is target and hit the enemy general that was behind the walls, I don't know how that happen, it was almost impossible to hit him.

I grieve for you fellow seleucids, for I to have lost a glorious general in battle likewise, I had a very promising seleucid general Alexander Thea, who had 7 for command, 6 management, 7 influence.

He died whilst as war with the Macedonians, my line of silvershields had just routed 7 opposing royal hyaspists and I sent my general along with several cataphract companions to chase down the fleeing pikemen only to have my general alexander charge through the rear of the phalanx and die along with all but 3 of his own bodyguards!

needless to say I was utterly gutted.

Another example was playing as iberia, i recall charging a carthaginian stationary general and half my bodyguard including general died, still to this day i was bewildered...

With the greeks this morning, Pontus besieged Sardis with a full stack. Their spy opened the gate so I pulled all my forces back to the town square. I had large stone walls.

Most of their units went on the same street by the walls, a unit of scythed chariots first. The scythed chariots went berserk by the arrowfire of the towers and charged back into its own allies...

They brutally murdered 70% of their own allies and routed a few. Near the gates they also killed the pontic faction heir, who came in last.

Only 1 battered unit of hillmen reached my phalanx, the rest were all dead by the time they retreated back out of the city.

0 remaining enemies, and 0 losses myself. Total screw-up by pontus. Laughed my ass of when I saw the battle stats tho...

I remember a long time ago I was playing a custom battle.
I had lost the battle due to my suddenly amok-running elephants which completely destroyed my front line.
So the enemy general was chasing after my routing elephants, aparently one of the bodyguards killed it.
And BOOM! Lands right on their general, there goes their total victory.

Lesson #1 - Never chase elephants with valuable cavalry troops, especially your general. They're deadly even when they're running .

Beat this. My best general, 10-star faction heir, with 7 units of heavy cavalry, charge a lone peasant, the only guy left standing after I had used my phalanxes against the brunt of the enemy army. So, all these cavalry, fresh, mind you, charging at the same time against a wavering peasant. And he kills my general. Go figure.

Thats Usual, Every time I use onagers, I end up killing the general.

Onagers will almost every time kill general, yours or enemies, cause it is so in game. If you give them order to fire at enemy's general bodyguard they will in most cases kill him.

My (Seleucid) general charges a lone unit of Urbans in the back. They were already wavering and down to 50% of their starting strenght thanks to a nasty encounter with my war elephants. When charged the enemy routs and I win the battle, but I suddenly see the portrait of my general is grey. One Seleucid soldier died in the charge, my general!
