Thread: New Terms of Service

I've put up the draft on the wiki so changes can be centrally coordinated rather than different Hex members keeping different copies, with the differences between copies being possibly unclear. You can view an ongoing list of changes here (click "diff" to see the difference between one revision and the last).
Erm, we don't seem to have a button called "diff", easiest way to compare versions is to select the two revisions you want to view via radio buttons on the history page and then hit "compare selected versions". Good idea developing it there anyway

    Just nitpicking.
I actually think you'll find that when comparing two items in the negative, that's correct english.

It just seems to have fallen out of popular use of late.

I have never found "nor" unpreceded by neither. Can you give a valid example of it used this way? A quote from a respectable source, for example...

Nope, just going on memory here

    You may well be right

From the American Heritage Book of English Usage:

Similarly, you must use nor (not or) when negating the second of two negative independent clauses: He cannot find anyone now, nor does he expect to find anyone in the future. Jane will never compromise with Bill, nor will Bill compromise with Jane.
However, when a verb is negated by not or never, and is followed by a negative verb phrase (but not an entire clause), you can use either or or nor: He will not permit the change or (or nor) even consider it.
If I read that right, nor is correct.

Indeed, but it's not exactly the same case. Here, nor is preceded by no, not a verb. But I won't persist.

Yeah, there's great interface consistency here. The button I meant to refer to, on history pages, is named "last" (i.e., compare to last revision, as opposed to "cur", which compares to current revision). On contributions pages, recent changes, and so on, it's called "diff". Using the radio buttons works too for history.

Censor bypass, insulting others, profanity - should be weighted more, say 8-10 points.
I agree with the idea, but also agree with Sim that 8-10 points is a bit extreme. Censor bypass is a statement that the user acknowledges that rules are in place but that they want to circumvent them anyway.

I'd say weighting it 3-5 gives it the attention it deserves. In my opinion, you don't accidentally bypass the censor, therefore being caught in the act should bear a sterner penalty than 1-2.

But again, this is the opinion of someone who is very inactive on these boards. Do with it what you will.

It's deliberate but fairly trivial, to be honest. It might merit 2-4, but it's not really a big deal. I'd leave it as it is.

    two specific questions,

are people happy with replacing Cautions with Notes?

and should notes be appealable to the CoM & Tribunal?
