Default The Lets Improve Scotland Thread

So, hey guys! First Time poster, long time forum stalker.

Well, Lets get down to business. As I mentioned in the topic, I think the Scotland Faction ought to be improved for various reasons. I'm just bias because I live there, but I've also noticed what an interesting faction it is to play in-game aswell.

However, I feel Scotland is a faction half done.

From my perspective now, CA has done an excellent job of creating Scotland as it was as it just got into the middle ages. Great! And to be historicly fair, its Military didnt move out of this stage for quite a while ( E.g. until the Renaisonce, and even then Highland clans were the bread and butter ). However, I've also noticed that CA has made afew attempts at making a more technologically superior Scotland, e.g. Armoured Swordsmen and Noble Pikemen. This intrigues me, but unfortunatly, these are the only true late period units Scotland gets. The other units are just coated in Chainmail, and theres only 1-2 cannons available, no Gunpowder infantry either.

So, what am I proposing? To be honest, I'm not proposing much, just adding in/improving afew units to the Scottish faction had it gone down the route of other European factions in becoming more technologically advanced.

I know Stainless Steel has already added aquabusiers to Scotland, but I dont feel thats enough, and besides, half of the units have been re-skinned ( Admitantly I like the Re-skinning's ) and half have not, which doesnt make it aestheticly pleasing.

    Heres a-few ideas I have :
    - Adding in new late period units to reflect the upgrades in technology that Scotland had but still bearing in mind the routes.
My ideas so far have been :
    - Scots Guard ( Easy enough to do, the French already have this Scottish unit, however the Scottish do not, I know the reason for this but with a better equiped Scotland I feel Scots Guard would become an appropriate unit. )
    - Armoured Highland Nobles - Basicly using the Armoured Swordsmen models with 2 handed swords ( Claymores ) instead of the Sword and Sheilds. This would be a new unit, and I'm not entirely sure how to make those but I could read up on it I suppose as I feel this is a unit that should be included. I feel the Statlines should be similar to the Norse Axemen ( Danish Unit )
    - (Scots ) Hand Gunners - The Scots Guard Model with the Hand Gunners, erm, Guns. I feel this should be included in the game as most Gunpowder units in the army were close range fighters who also engaged in Melee, usually just firing off their weapons once or twice on the charge before they engaged. I know this cant be done, and neither am I asking for it, but I still like the idea of the unit anyway.
    - The Serpentine Cannon I also feel would be an appropriate unit for the Scottish Army to have, as the Scottish, even as an advanced nation were never a conquering people, they fought most of their battles on the fields of battle, rather than sieges, so if artillary was to be branced into I reckon it would be an infantry slayer.
    - Perhaps Aquabusiers? No real reason, I just think an early unit of Handgunners would be appropriate. ( I dont think Musketeers would suit the Scottish Faction as it is more close combat orientated. )
    - I dont feel any new cavalry is needed, although another late period light cavalry unit may be appropriate? ( E.g. Demi Lancers with the Scots Guard model, P.s. I cant get enough of the Scots Guard model )

    - Perhaps continue on the work of the Stainless Steel mod and continue to make more units have a red, tartany theme? ( For those wondering, the red and yellow tartan pattern used in Stainless Steel is the flag of Edinburgh, erm, was. ). Either way, I feel it looks nicer and more historically appropriate than before. To say the least its more Aesthetically pleasing, although as it stands It would be nice to see it continued out through the entire Scottish force rather than having some blue and some red units clashing in colour schemes

So, in conclusion, I'm no modder myself, but if theres support for this project I would easily be willing to learn and take on some of the work. But really this is more of a mod request, as selfish as it sounds. I'd like to request some help in making this mod, and prefferably making it SS compatible.

Well if you've read this far, I have to say thankyou very much, and please feel free to give me your ( Probably harsh I know ) Critique?

    Cheers.

This is great! even better since that you play SS! Anyways, what do you have in mind? more units? and reskin? I guess that would be great since Scotland really lacks many many things.
and.. , make it playable with SS while your at it thank you!

First of all thanks for the reply

Well mostly what I have in mind I have said already, it isnt a huge job I'll be honest and I'll probably need a whole lot of help to put it together as I have no mod experience. However I am intending to read up on the tutorials about how to do what I have proposed, afterall it is rather rude to ask out of the blue for people to help without putting any work in myself.

But yeah, the new units I've listed are mainly what I want to impliment, which with an experienced skinner/modder on hand should not be to hard, as most of it is just taking origional models and making small modifications/just moving them into the Scotland faction.

And the next thing is more of a personal prefferance than anything but I also feel a re-skin may be quite called for, as currently most of the late Period Scottish units merely bare the flag on them and that passes for the uniform.

What has been done in Stainless Steel I feel has worked out better, there is more of a tartan feel, which has far more variation than the blue and white we're seeing now. The red/green/yellow colour scheme I feel makes for a more aesthetically pleasing faction.

    So yeah, thats it, basiclly
