Quick Fixes for SS 4.1

SS 4.1

Since some of the features of the previous version have been deprecated by the 4.1 patch I have released an update that now only includes the sound fix:-

Install into the main M2TW folder (it now runs the exe automatically after installation).

Installation

Unzip the archive into the M2TW folder and run the SS4.exe file.

Update

Version two now fixes the sounds for the Aragorn and Kievan Rus factions as well. Installation remains the same and can be installed over version one.

Non-English Versions of M2TW

The sound fix in this program is designed for the English version of the game and may not work correctly with other versions as they don't have the same range of accents. If this is the case for the version you use please edit the Stainless_Steel_Mod\data\descr_sounds_accents.txt file and move the factions from the accents that don't exist to ones that do. In addition it would be useful if you could pm me about this letting me know which version you're using and what changes you had to make or any other problems that occur using this fix.

Cool! I finally got 4.0 downloaded and i was just wondering whether i have to do the fixes manually, this will save some time

Which faction are you playing as? The Aragorn and Kievan factions seem to use the English sounds whether the sound event files are the correct ones or not.

Also, Russia (Novograd) uses the English model as well. That is fixed by your fix I presume?

It should fix the voices of all of the original factions.

I think I might've done something wrong. I need to copy the xml file into stainless_steal_mod/data correct? And this should fix the voices of all factions?

The xml file fixes the movies. You need to run the SS4.exe file in the M2TW folder to fix the sounds.

Hey matey

Literally just copy the contents of the zip (ie stainless_steel_mod folder, ss.ico and ss4.exe) into your main Medieval 2 folder

Then just run ss4.exe and itll do the rest for you

You'll know if youve copied it right as a) you'll get a warning about the folder wanting to overwrite files (which is needed) and b) it'll ask you if it wants to create a shortcut when you run ss4.exe

Mike - I've had a look at everything I can see, and not sure how its going to be possible to set Kievan/Aragon voices. Could possibly edit the events.dat file with a hex editor, but thats just plain nasty. I don't think it can be done, as KK would surely have done it

I've actually developed a fix for it but was just going to test it before releasing it. If you want to give it a go you can download it here.

are you talking about on the campaign map or in battles?

if it is the campaign map, I think it is becasue there is no new descr_sounds_accents.txt file to add an accent to the new factions. I have uploaded a file with the Aragon set to spanish, and Kiev Rus to East european. I have fully tested it and it doesnt overwrite any existing ss file. just save into the data folder within Stainless Steel To

~~Delete C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\Stainless_Steel_Mod\data\sounds\events.dat

~~Delete C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\Stainless_Steel_Mod\data\sounds\events.idx

then the game builds new files allocating accents to factions
