Default Do other players here abuse the save/load function?

As in save before you do something risky, then load if it fails miserably. I find myself doing that often. Is that considered normal, or cheating?

If you're playing against computer, there's nothing wrong with it.

But if you try it online, it gets kind of annoying because battles should be fought without having time to think things through. It's a good thing that both players have to agree on a pause.

Well battles I only reload if my general(s) die or I lose the battle due to a tactical blunder which makes my army go from crushing victory to crushing defeat. I like defending the walls in siege battles because its fun(although causes lots of casualties it seems), as long as I win I don't care if I suffered like 60% losses.

I have only ever done it due to diplomatic problems or losing my best assassin when he should have been fine things, but the battles i never really lose to the AI...

I will only ever reload if there was a technical issue or a bug that prevented me from doing whatever it is I'm trying to do.

If my assasin dies trying to eliminate a target that should have been a cakewalk, so be it. If my greatest general gets picked off by a stray javelin, I play the ball where it lies (Though I was pissed beyond belief!).

Well i never use the save/load function to help in my campagains. I lose a fight/spy/assassian etc so be it. Many things happen in war and anyway, I love a fight to the bitter end no matter the cost.

I just reload when the game screw my strategy, this is common in sieges.
Attacking the city square/center is always an adventure because my units never do what I order them to do. Many times I positioned my infantry in front of the enemy units and my cavalry in the rear for a deadly sandwich attack, and what happens? My cavalry instead of attack directly the enemy go froward to the middle of my infantry destroying their formation and then charge head on the infantry. Result against pikes: my cavalry killed and my infantry routed >>> Reload

I usualy do a save before a battle incase the hard code pathing messes up or some unforseen glitch. Example: after taking the walls in a seige I reform my units so they face down the street instead of the default where when they stop they face the walls of the buildings, exposing their flanks. Sometimes you think you got it right only to have a couple units get murdered because the hard code did something you don't understand, and was not what you thought you were doing.

If I do something stupid, oh well, I don't reload for that, even if I lose a battle I should have won. I only reload when the game itself causes something that was not my intent.

Depends really for example, if I was in the early years of my Kingdom say 7 or less provinces sometimes, pending on the risk, like say pretty much emptying all garrisons to go on a crusade to baghdad, then absolutely yes, waging war on a neighbouring kingdom? no.

However if its at the point where I am a large, rich empire then I dont usually save before I do anything at all, I just take things in my stride, besides too rarely does the AI have the initiative to drive a catastrophic defeat home. That is unless its either the mongols or timurids of course

Personally though I see no wrong with saving before taking an action, after all descretion is the better part of valour.

I have cut up a large portion of the Selucid Empire and have reached the borders of the Plotemic Empire. And now they declare war on me and sieging my poorly defended cities that I just took from the Selucid Empire. According to the faction scroll, I have more units than Plotemic(well he has 3 full stacks at my door steps while my units are spread out). I was thinking, either I smash those cities to pieces(loot everything) and let them have it and sacrafice those men(as in kill as many enemies as possible) or reload to a few turns earlier so I let selucid empire keep those cities and act as a buffer zone while I send my entire army from the west and pour it into the east to defend myself against the plotemic invasion. I am going to try out the fight to the last man route first. If I barely scratch the enemy's army I will choose the other route. (I actually do this often, fight the losing battle despite knowing I will lose to see if I can win, which sometimes happen, then reload and reposition armies if I lose).

I play the same being as fair as possible but yeah, I do use save/load sometimes, especially when I'm too tired to fight 3-4 battles every turn.

If I want to autocalculate a battle I save because the game makes funny decisions sometimes like my full banner lose against some rebels, if I win than ok if I lose than I reload and play the battle myself.

I only ever do it if autoresolve gives me a crazy result forcing me to fight the battle myself, if the ai ever beat me in a battle i would just accept it though.

I remember doing it a lot when losing a General I wanted kept alive for an example.

I don't like S&R, to be true. I've only used it a few times despite battlefield or auto-resolve defeats.

But I Pause the game almost constantly on a battlefield. I prefer a methodical and minimalist approach, giving individual orders to every unit. The problem of this game is the lack of life in the lower ranks of your army: unless you give them orders all the time, they're going to sit there and watch routing enemies flee or simply regroup, turn around and charge them from the rear. Annoying and stupid, but still not more annoying than the pathfinding issues in sieges or when you give your foolish general the order to move but instead he charges on the row of spear points nearby.
"Romans not only easily conquered those who fought by cutting, but mocked them too. For the cut, even delivered with force, frequently does not kill, when the vital parts are protected by equipment and bone. On the contrary, a point brought to bear is fatal at two inches; for it is necessary that whatever vital parts it penetrates, it is immersed. Next, when a cut is delivered, the right arm and flank are exposed. However, the point is delivered with the cover of the body and wounds the enemy before he sees it."

    I do it occasionally.

I quicksave before every battle. Not so I can go back and re-fight it if I do not like how it turns out, but because it is just a habit from years of playing computer games to save often. You never know when the game is going to crash. For example: for a while I was using the Bows of Artemis mod, which sometimes caused a ctd when loading battles.

I also trid Bows of Artemis and game chrashes sometime, that is one of reasons why I save often.
