    Default Installation Issues with Vista

I got Vista Home Premium and it looks cool and stuff, so I went to set it up, I got my Anti-spyware and Anti-virus stuff on it, updated the drivers and then all of a sudden, applications stop installing. Like I tried to install Office 2007 and it hung at 0%. I tried KOTOR and same thing. Then I tried updating Installshield and that would hang also. What the hell happened here? Is it something to do with Vista? Did it get corrupted and now I have to reinstall it?

Make sure your FW, AV and AS are turned off when installing. What was the last thing you installed successfully? Have you gone to 'windows update' and updated everything suggested there? Do you have the latest or most stable drivers (might have to research a bit) installed? Can you install anything via safe mode? Do you get any errors at any point? Is the software compatible with Vista? Have you rebooted?

Provide as much detail as you can about what you have done thus far.

The first thing I did was update all the drivers and flash my BIOS. I get no errors except that it stops at 0% and when I try to cancel I get that little do you want to cancel box and if I decide to cancel nothing happens. I'll try disabling my AV and AS but stuff installed previously with them on. I don't know if KOTOR is compatible but I'll be damned if Office 07 isn't. And I just tried Ad-Aware and got the same as above. I've rebooted several times and I'll try safe mode after disabling my AV. Also the last thing I remember installing correctly was Realtek Audio Drivers I got from the Ausus site.

EDIT: Windows Update is hung at creating restore point.

EDIT2: I think it may have been the AV. I restarted in Safe mode and it worked and then when I came back to regular and disabled my AVG it works. I really don't know but I'm happy it works.

Glad you got it working. I have the 64-bit Ultimate and up until recently I hadn't had problems installing most things but found by disabling AVG it worked for me as well.
