Default RPMBM and graphics, please read.

Since I have been having problems with this game about the same place as others,I have done some research donig some old fashioned process of elimination.

My machine came loaded with Vista. If you want more speed, get into the thing and set it for performance not beauty. It also came with an onboard video that will not play bigmap after about 30= regions. This includes updating the motherboard BIOS and maxing the video settings on it, and updating the video chipset.

I checked the size of the map.rwm fo which RTW and M2TW both use and here are their sizes:
    RTW Vanilla map.rwm=3247
RTW Terrae Expugnandae of which uses the Mundus Magnus map map.rwm=7215
    M2TW Vanilla map.rwm=4350
    M2TW RPMBM 2.4 map.rwm=13736

I also played one turn of RPMBM and and the system.log.txt with the "* trace" switch used, had over 144,000 lines and that's only campaign map with all battles auto-resolve.

I conclude many of the unresolved ctds are underpowered video systems. If someone that has had unresolved ctds with this mod and not on another mod with 180+ regions and comparable map.rwm size, please refute my conclusions with facts including mod name, size, etc.

Errrr, I have a 3ghz, 2gb ram ASUS ATi X1900XT system. And I would not call that underpowered And still I have the same problems as you. Tried in both XP and Vista.

But I wonder if it is not map related too. Maybe some other files other than the one that specifies regions/docks. Maybe something with the terrain, sealevel or other. If there's a tile that is marked as being above/below water and one tries to build something on it that it could cause an error. Road, docks or something. I am not sure, as I know too little about map editing.

I have found trying to mod the map files that their errors and ctds are before you even get to the Sega logo screen. No, your system is not underpowered. The last two times I tried playing, it ctd' on exit with the graphics in the buttons going bad and unreadable. the last line in the system.log.txt points to a line in the campaign_script.txt: 06:50:02.574 [game.script.counter] [trace] counter <Opened_Settlement_Scroll> = 0. Have you tried any other mods with a big map? I would like to do some comparing.

No, haven't tried any other BM mods. Actually I'm not that fond of BM, but when the BM 2.4 basemap came out it had many provinces with the normal faction so it seemed nice. But alas, usually ctds around 20 turns.

As of right now, from the info that I have seen, the problems are related to both basemap version and bigmap version. They have also come up since 2.1 bigmap version. 2.1BM did not ctd when I was playing and it uses the same bigmap except for changing port locations, and maybe a couple of river crossings, nothing that would cause a ctd after 20 turns. Could you email me a copy of your last system.log.txt file at irishron@sbcglobal.net? I'd like to see what it has.

I've already deleted that mod, but I wonder if it can have any connection to this: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=106832

I know the launcher does not work because the keys it registers and real file names are not the same. Anybody who wants to play this mod without the problems, bigmap or small map, go back to version 2.1. That's before the new factions, launchers, and other headaches.
